I'm surprised by the results of this highly non scientific test. Amazon basics does incredibly well. I have used Valvoline for years but I won't now.

I've used Valvoline conventional pretty much all my life. May need to change.

I have also. If this simple test shows this kind of difference imagine a real scientific test. I'm done with Valvoline. Especially in my truck.

You interpreted the tests wrong. Valvoline that was used was conventional and a fine oil. The main point was that basic full syn like Amazon, supertech, etc. can provide as good of a cold flow as Mobil 1. The valvoline just provides a reference point for conventional.

You are correct. I'm going to use a synthetic from here forward. For all the same reasons.

So many people are going to have this knee jerk reaction not even paying attention that it's 2 full synthetics vs a conventional for reference

But the synthetics appear superior no? If it changed my mind is that a bad thing?

Synthetics will always be superior, you are right. They start with a higher grade base stock. I just meant that at face value people are going to watch 3 minutes of that and say "ohhhhh valvoline bad" when in reality if he used the synthetic valvoline results would have mimicked Mobil 1 as it is a highly regarded oil.

Consider me one who had no idea that synthetics were THIS superior to a conventional. My truck has 120,000 so synthetic will probably be a breath of fresh air for the old gal

well... to be clear the "synthetic" designation is mostly (as in 100%) marketing...

Mobil 1 is a very good, very highly refined mineral based oil with a very good additive package.

A True "synthetic" oil (as in ester based) is going to cost you up to $20 a quart..

But the Amazon Basic synthetic and the Valvoline conventional are at the same price point.

My observation:
Amazon Basic vs Mobile1: AB provides comparable functionality at a lower price.
Valvoline vs Amazon Basic: AB provides the superior benefits of synthetic oil at a comparable price.

Oil is so cheap. Relatively speaking.

No idea why everybody doesnt just do full synthetic when it is only like $20 more per change
