Good. No logical reason that profession should be a birthright. Nepotism at it’s finest.

The River Pilots are going to kill the goose laying their golden egg. They all make very lucrative salaries and are politicing often for more money. They should lay low for a couple of years and stay out of the limelight.

How do they politic for more money, when their salaries are paid by private companies??

They only thing that would make sense is that they are asking to charge more money to these private companies.

the vessel owners are the ones who should be throwing a bitch fit over the prices of this service!

I believe the public service commission set there rates. hence the pilots always keeping the Governor in their back pocket.

One of the dumbest mother frickers I have ever met in my life does this and was grandfathered in to the position. Totally pisses me off that this guy is making this kind of money, a complete total buffoon, but hey good for him.

I do believe foreign-operated businesses/ships are required to use them. Therefore they have to pay their outrageous fees. They want to make the fees even more outrageous so those companies are griping to the state.

The Government sets their rates, and then mandates that the private companies use them. So there is no free market competition. If you want to do business, you have to use them and you have to pay them their Government set rates.

Yeah I know one as well. Absolute dumbass white trash motherfricker. He spends his money on ski boats, jet skis, ATVs, and gaudy houses/camps. If he lost his job tomorrow, he'd be broke in 5 years, despite having earned millions and millions of dollars over the last decade or so.

right US flagged ships can use federal pilots the all the way from SW pass to NO and maybe even all the way to BR and their "fee" is dramatically lower

If you’re in the “family” all you need to do is maintain your USCG licenses and you’ll always have work with little to no competition. I wouldn’t call it easy, as it’s high risk, but those baws are living good.
