Mississippi River going down. Are we saved?

Looks like a slow but steady fall in June based on current conditions. Of course subject to change.
No problems on the Ohio River through June which is where most of our water comes from.
Looks like Farmer Brown can move back into the Spillway.

So Jesus really did answer them prayers?

If you noticed, the delays and cancellation of opening the Morganza coincided with levee breaches/over-toppings in Arkansas.
Water going elsewhere up north helped ease things down here.

Don't get too excited about the dropping Ohio River just yet. The overall set up depicted by the models would yield a bunch of rain for the Ohio Valley. Not sure we're going to be talking Morganza again or anything like that, but bet on the river staying high well into July.

Still so much water pushing against levees for so long. So I don't think we are "saved" yet but clearly this is good news.

This flood wasn't shite. Sure it was high for a long long time but it was way higher everywhere in 2011.

Pond crawfish season over so this is fine. I won’t have to lower prices

The interest is up and the stock markets down and you only get mugged if you go downtown.

Get ready to be disappointed. I remember back in March when it was supposed to be dropping to an acceptable level in mid April. Still waiting for that number to be hit

This flood only "wasn't shite" because it broke so many levees upstream that the water spread out geographically and timeliness.

Jay Grymes said last week this would be the case, should be smooth sailing for the rest of the summer.
He also stated the Jeans and rolled up sleeves are pressed and ready for hurricane season.

You don't think levees were broken in 2011?
The Arkansas River only contributes to 20% of the river's flow past Memphis.

This is at Cairo. The long range forecast has it push 50 ft again in about a week and a slower fall and error range suggests it might take longer. This shouldn't be pushing a third high crest for us down here unless the rainfall projections are underdoing it by a fair bit.
The long range rainfall that's being produced by the computers:
The operational GFS is more aggressive than the ensemble mean over the Ohio valley, but lean more to the ensemble mean at the 384 hr range. Just note the wet pattern that wants to take hold well into July.
Bad news for farmers up in Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, and Ohio. They're already late getting planting done and aren't likely to get near 100% of what they planted last year.

Who do you think made all the rain fall to make the rivers full in the first place.
Sounds like a protection racket if you ask me.
