Isn't that incredible? And they're not bad lawyers. In fact, most of them are damn good lawyers, but the job requirements for firms do not reflect the value placed on the degree. The in-house counsel jobs are the best, and they typically go to the older lawyers as a form of "semi-retirement". It's insane.

If you went through grad/professional school, and you didn't at least have one internship under your belt, I don't know what to tell you.

I am a master's grad, 4 internships and research from undergrad through grad. Not one of my classmates had fewer than 2 and research.

Maybe I misread your post, they've all had internships, and they all expect 80k+ when they get out of school.

I have no idea what they made at my age, ID assume I'm at probably double the pay my mom was at as a first time teacher, yet I work triple the hours she had to.

I doubt I will ever come close to what my dad makes. He did travel a lot, something I don't have to do, but honestly i wouldn't mind it.

It really, really sucks after a bit. One of the major reasons I left my last gig. Young family and travel do not mix at all.

There are a lot of company men old fricks in this thread. If you spend your whole life working 60+ hours for somebody else, dear god in heaven help your precious workerbee little arse.

Congrats on all the gritty, hard, character building work you did. But please dont romanticize it and try and convince other people to go down into the coalmine and earn their due.

Fair enough. But please don't whine about not having enough opportunities in your career and forget whining about money. It's all about choices.

Depends on the in-house position. Plenty of in-house lawyers work 50-70 hours per week.

This guy works about 35 hrs a week, unless they are working on a big deal/acquisition. Those come around about once every year or two.

Most young people today have an entitlement mentality. It comes along with the current state of our country.
Older people didn't grow up with that, but did grow up with a work ethic. Elections have consequences.
