No shite? It's 2018, we have color tv, microwaves, and cellphones.

I'm wasn't really referring to modern technology. I was pointing out that I don't think many younger people would find living in a 1400 sq ft house with 2 kids acceptable but it was pretty common in previous generations.

It's not like most of those blue collar workers in the 60s that he was referring to were living in 3200 sq ft houses. They lived a more meager lifestyle.

It's not unusual for teachers to make 100k in the top paying states

92k in NYC is poverty and you know it. Let's not be disingenuous.

Even white collar. My neighborhood had Air Force enlisted, truck drivers, car salesmen, engineers and a superintendent of schools.

It was primarily working class though. The working class was a different breed then however.

If you are at 300k, then 325k won't break your back and there's a few to be had currently in places you like to pick on.

The top states are ones where housing is the most

And I said starting pay because he's not making in his first 3 years what a 20 year teacher is making.

The top 10% make a good bit, the rest don't. The average is $56-58k. If people are making $80k in New York, the bottom teachers aren't making shite.

That was pretty much my childhood neighborhood too. It was mostly 1400-1600 sq ft houses. My dad was a white collar worker but the neighborhood was probably 50/50 white collar blue collar.

Looked at a 1300 the other day asking for $350k. The first question I asked the realtor was how they felt about taking $125K off the asking price. She didn't say anything so we left.

If you ever decide to move north of 635 or west of 35E, there are homes out there in that price range that are pretty damn nice.

The difference in mortgage from a 400k house to a 360k house is roughly 300 a month.

But when you are in the range, whats 300 dollars extra?

105k in DFW gets you roughly 6500 take home a month. You can get into quite a few things here.

Housing is as expensive as you make it. My area has west coast housing prices but I live comfortably with modest housing

Keeping up with the jones's gets expensive

I love how you live in Alaska and think the economic conditions and realities are representative of the rest of the US.

And you're still completely oblivious to the reality.

People are high as frick in this thread and dont realize how expensive housing is.

Not really. The vast majority of houses in Dallas that are under $300k are going to be in the Oak Cliff area or Fair Park area. Really the only 2 bad areas of the city.

So you either up your price range, or legthen your commute. Either way, it's more expensive. You just either pay it on your mortgage or your gas/toll bill.
