Military Buffs: Navy SEALs Are Comparable to Which Army Unit?

Green Berets? The mission of the US Army Special Forces is unique in of itself. While they may share certain types of duties, there really isn’t another unit that encompasses all that Green Berets do. Also, based on the reputation of the SEALs as of late, I would hesitate to place them alongside the maturity of the SF Groups.
75th Ranger Regiment? This appears to be more equatable to the mission of SEALs, in my opinion. It seems they both share more of a direct action mission, and while the 75th are great Americans, they are typically (as a whole) full of younger men who are pissing vinegar, but have not yet reached the maturity level often seen in the Groups.
Light Airborne Infantry (82d ABN, etc.)? I hesitate to place the SEALs alongside them. The SEALs possess a more streamlined operating command structure and capabilities.
Delta Force- considering DF recruits from all branches, and includes former SEALs, you can’t even attempt to equate your ordinary SEAL teams with the Unit.
What do the military buffs think?

Not rangers or airborne. Both of those are highly elite INFANTRY forces that work in typical size groups w

The SEALs are a pointless and redundant organization but ST6 and Delta are considered the Tier 1 commando units of the military.

The Army Ants
Relentless bunch.

PJ’s are held in high respect within spec ops.
SEALs are badasses but have very good PR and why many hold them as the “elite”.

SEALs are least comparable to SF
They are basically just baby Delta / smaller and better Ranger units with water expertise included in their mission

quote:Sure. There are already plenty of commando units in the Army and the Marine Corps that are just as good and in most cases better than the SEALs. And if there's a mission that those units don't currently train for because the SEALs do it now, like actual frogman shite, they could certainly learn how in short order.
Care to elaborate?
The only reason NAVSOC exists is so the Navy can get in on the action and get some more funding. Same goes for AFSOC for that matter.

Green Berets would be who they compare to the best
The ranger regiment is a full infantry unit

I met David Gogins once at the SEAL base in Coronado when I was on some trip for college credits in high school. He claimed that the Airforce Pararescue training was more swimming and was harder training. He the only person I know of that was in special forces in 3/4 branches in the DOD. I'll take his word it might be different now.
Edit: he was TACP

Delta for Army, check out Combat Controllers for the Air Force. Those are bad mofos and usually mixed in with Seal and Special Force units.

quote:PJs are glorified medics. All the other elite units have medics that are just as well trained as they are. The only reason they deploy with other SOF forces is to give them something to do.

Strongly disagree. No one has the amphibious/waterborne capabilities that SEALs have developed over the years.

I don’t know who they compare to, but the baddest motherfrickers work in units you’ve never heard of

Yes, but do they write as many books?

They didn’t call in the Berets or Rangers to get Bin Laden. That speaks volumes

The UDT teams performed a beach recon and demolition function. When special warfare became a thing in the early sixties they expanded a new role which tbh which is a better fit for the Marines. Now what remains of the old UDT function is left to EOD while the SEALS are off doing their thing.
IYAM one of the SEAL's big problems is that they drank the Marcinko koolaid. They would have done well to adopt their own version of the Army's sneaky pete philosophy. The SF dudes I've been around you'd never know what they do for a living except maybe being in a little better shape than the average guy.

I know a guy who was a ranger and then a night stalker. He got to do some cool shite

These are ridiculous arguments.
If you are special forces in ANY branch you are a hardass.
It’s like arguing which boxer has the tightest abs.

They’re direct action and small-team based. Basically a shittier version of Delta.
Rangers and SEALs are pretty similar in terms of demographics (minus DEVGRU). SEAL culture is fricked though compared to the 75th and the 75th is much more a comprehensive unit.
Not at all. These guys are completely different and are the only special forces we have. Everyone else is SOF for a reason.
ETA: this is in terms of normal land warfare/direct action. If you need underwater infiltration, SEALs are still the best I’d think
ETA2: if there’s gonna be an argument about who the most badass combat unit is, try SAD or any other CIA unit
