Scanner traffic indicated the aircraft was a V-22 Osprey possibly carrying radioactive and nuclear material.

Naval Air Facility El Centro wrote on its Facebook page: “NAFEC has just received reports of a downed aircraft in the vicinity of Coachella Canal Road and Highway 78. Installation, federal fire and Imperial County Fire Department are responding. I do not have any additional details at this time as facts become verified and available information will be released on the base’s Facebook page. Please be patient as the installation team works through this emergency.”

Damn. Ospreys are unbelievable machines but the maintenance is apparently the most intense of any service aircraft.

I find it hard to believe they would be carrying nuclear materials on a CV-22.

Which makes it a huge pile of shite.

Couple that with how poorly the military allocates its resources and you'll see what we have in this military right now. Cannibalizing aircraft and other machinery just to get most of the outdated machinery that we do have to work.

There are radioactive materials that have nothing to do with weapons, I've worked in environments where polonium is used to eliminate static charge. Looks like it went down in a bombing range and according to MCAS Yuma yesterday, MV-22s were being used to transport ordinance.

What’s nuclear material doing on an Osprey? Didn’t realize they carried such weapons or handled waste/etc.
