Glad they finally put him down.

ETA: Anyone in the know have any idea if we're going to get a new one, or are the pussies going to stop it?

This isn't fricking Madagascar where you have the tiger doing broadway shows my dude.

No wild arse animal is going to care to do that, and none should probably be forced to. Having him on campus with his habitat is cool enough as it is.

I'm afraid the animal lovers will complain about this and see that it doesn't happen. But you can't hardly see into the mobile cage anyway so its not like you're missing anything.

Agreed. Baker saved one of my dogs who had a very rare disease that went undiagnosed through a few vets. He gave my boy another 5 years of life.

So sad. My Sunday run would include running by his Place. I don't like to stop when I run but always stop to look for him. I'm gonna miss him.

I think part of it is that they look for Tigers that have a proven track record of being non-aggressive around handlers and people in general.

Maybe this docile quality is the same thing that might make one not want to go to a football game. It's just too intimidating.

Plus, the cage is so elaborate and designed so that people can't reach in, nor can the tiger reach out (thanks, lawyers) - that you can barely see him in there.

i would do tha tbut i'm pretty sure Tiger fans wouldn't want to see that more than once.

You people act as if the previous mascots were prodded into the trailer. They would coerce them with food. They stopped doing that with this mascot because he didn't like the fireworks as one poster stated and they just stopped bringing him in favor of fireworks.

I also read that Dr. Baker- you know, the guy who let him suffer at the end - promised Mike's original caretaker to never force Mike into the cage. Just goes to show how much the staff cared for the cat.

To be fair LSU only rescues tigers born and raised in captivity. They wouldnt survive in the wild long at all.

And Roscoe was different because he came here at the age of 2. He didnt grow up as cub getting used to all the sights, sounds, and people that come with being Mike. This is the main reason he rarely got into his trailer.

If we want the tradition to continue you bring in a younger cub and groom him to be comfortable with all of that. Animals personalities and temperaments can be molded as long as it starts early and is done right.
