I lived in Uptown for 4 years and now live just north of Oak Lawn in Highland Park. Didn't ever spend much time in Oak Lawn but they do have a lot of bars and restaurants close by. IMO unless you're part of the LGBT scene, you're probably better off in Uptown, Victory Park, Highland Park area.

Def 100% false. You don’t have to be part of the gay community to fit in in Oaklawn. There are other areas of Oaklawn that’s just a regular every day part of town without much crime or violence.

It's more from the sense that the main strip of bars along Cedar Springs cater to a certain group and wouldn't be the neighborhood bars where I would spend time. It is a happening area though and there are some good places along there. That La Ventana over there is great.

Getting an apartment in The Villages until you get a better feel of the city and where you want to live is never a bad option.

With that said, I wouldn't live in uptown as it's gotten pretty ghetto. Tons of car break ins and they've opened a couple of bars that let's just say don't attract a desirable clientele.

I have heard that uptown isn't what it used to be.

I thought the area around Knox/Henderson is cool, if you like to party.
