It was McKinley for almost 100 years before Obama changed it

Are there Indian monuments that had their name changed?

There were a few threads on here full of outrage that there was a movement to restore the native name to Stone Mountain a year or two ago.

you are aware that Lee was an American war hero prior to the events of the Civil War, correct?

He was even Superintendent of West Point (Army Academy) before the Civil War as well.

and Lee didn't really want to fight in the war at all and practically begged to remain in the Union Army but not forced to fight.

Wow! That is a stunning admission of ignorance. Napoleon Bonaparte is largely recognized as the greatest general of all time, yet he lost. Hannibal Barca is recognized as one of the greatest military tactical minds ever and he lost in pretty overwhelming fashion. Joan of Arc was posthumously canonized for her greatness after she lost to the English and was burned at the stake.

All of these were “losers” in the end. You are missing out on some great history by not reading more. Name does not check out.

The Aztecs get more praise than the confederacy and they were even bigger losers

The ancient Romans built multiple statues of Hannibal Barca. He was also a loser. People can honor a defeated adversary and in doing so can honor their own power because they defeated him. Although I would honor them just for being a worthy opponent.

There are monuments to the Spanish conquistadors even though they eventually lost new Spain and it became 50 different countries

It's really just restoring something that never needed to be changed in the first place.
