Where were all of these young and hot teachers when I was in high school? Just about every single one of my high school teachers were in their late-30s/early-40s and looked like they had taken a nose dive from the ugly tree. The one attractive teacher we had was a total bitch.

It is the media attention.
Even if all the stories you have every heard about totaling 500 teachers, there are 3.2 million at any given time. Given the turnover that's probably 10 million different people over the period this has been publicized. Throw out the males and old ones and that's still a couple million.
