Oh, wow!! I didn't realize there was so much science behind breaking a car window! For some silly reason, I thought you just take something solid and heavy and smash it into the center of the glass.

They keep hitting it in the center. If you hit the window at the edges, you have a better chance of breaking it.

I had a big arse limb from a 200+ year old oak tree fall on my windshield from around 40 feet up. It didn't break it, just got a big arse spiderweb shatter. It takes a lot of force to break that glass

Front window? those ones are near impossible.

I think most people sort of "hold up" when they get to the glass instead of hitting through it. When I had to do it to my car, i got a rock with a bit of a point to the edge and it wasn't hard. I'm by no means some exceptionally strong person either.

Dispatcher should be fired.

Mom and grandmother should be tested for the Down's.

Hey I'm a major advocate of locking up people that leave their children to die in hot cars. But this doesn't look anything like a deliberate attempt to extinguish their child's life.

Every car I own is operable from my cellphone or keyfob. Not all cars are like that.

Most people think the same thing, and most are surprised that they're wrong.

And yet I very recently had to buy my neighbor a drivers side window ($309) that was completely shattered by small rock slung by my lawnmower as she was passing my house. banghead:

,

You can pretty much shatter any window with something like a rock at high speed. The videos of people shattering windows with crushed ceramic from spark plugs are pretty impressive too.

They should have told the dispatcher it was a puppy. The cops would have come quickly to let the dog out thinking they were going to be able to shoot the dog..

Exactly. These fricking idiots in here...

I love the nonchalant attitude..."oh yeah, just break the window and move."

Like, "oh, yeah, just wipe up the spilled water and throw away the wet paper towel."

I hate the fact I found this site. So many goddamn fricking morons in here. I guess that isn't any different than walking around the real world.

And more importantly, how do you "accidentally" lock your child in the car? For real.

Probably by accident.

I guess I just have a problem with her immediately running to the media and complaining when she resolved the issue herself before EMS would have arrived anyways, most likely.

That’s exactly hat she should do. The dispatchers are now getting additional training on handling these situations going forward. Her media story could literally save lives.

Man, people have not read this at all.

1. The woman was desperately trying to break the window with a piece of asphalt. She was unsuccessful and panicking.

2. The grandmother called 911 for help, the 911 operator told her they don't unlock cars, despite her clearly saying there was a child trapped inside.

3. They eventually found a window hammer and got in.

So, the mom WAS trying, but couldn't do it. Its a lot harder to break car windows than most people think. The grandmother called 911 while watching her daughter try and fail to break in.
