I'm definitely looking for something more durable, if I buy metal I want to pass it on to the kids
Those art ones look awesome but not quite what I want

i was looking at building a brick one but was having trouble finding fire brick. Your idea of the metal ring is a good one. Is it working well?

What about a Chiminea? Just another option

Yeah the one from Walmart I've got is not good for much more than keeping in my camper. But it's perfect for that. It's lightweight, easy to clean, and easy to store in the camper without making a mess.

I agree, they look awesome. But I just can't bring myself to drop $1,500-$1,600+ on a fire pit no matter how cool it looks.

I'd be too afraid it would walk away once I put it at the cabin in a few years

I'm not handy but it doesn't seem too difficult
That is the exact fire pit I'm building for my wife. I have already bought most materials and will borrow the tools I need to do the work.
Cost for the refractory brick at a my local brick store was $85. The sleeve of bricks to match my house was $45. Mortar and refractory cement all cost about $85. Forms and concrete $35.
For $250, I think the masonry fire pit looks a lot better and will provide better heat as well. I plan on buying a large grill grate for when I want to cook over it.

Been on the hunt for this one

You can find fire brick for around $1.50 to $1.75 at most brick suppliers around town.
I was going to buy the metal sleeve insert as well, but that too was more expensive.

Build a nice brick one at the cabin now and you can take your time on it but do it right. Buy a cheap metal one for right now. When you move to your cabin for retirement, you'll have the badass brick one waiting for you.
And your kids and future generations can always say "your pawpaw made that with his own hands".

I had an awesome copper one that I paid around $450 for. I went out of town one weekend and it walked out of my yard.
(old house in BR was on Acadian and you could see the backyard from the street)
I really like the one in your OP. I miss sitting around the firepit with beers and snacks.

I can see about getting the contact info to the vendor I was talking about on page one. I know he could make one just like that. Course it's going to cost you out the arse.

Go to Brian's in Port Allen. Buy one of the mini cast iron sugar kettles. They have a 3-4 foot diameter. Get someone to make a stand and style it how you want. Total cost should be less than 600$. I did it and started a thread on here looking for a metal fab shop willing to help me. They put fleur d'lis on my stand and made it really nice. (It was a Christmas present for Mrs Corleone)

The deathstar looks cool but does it work well as a fire pit? Brick is the best

The place I moved to about 6 months ago has a 1/2 thick steel fire pit. It's about 4' in diameter. Had a good fire last night.

Dunno, but it looks cool as hell. though you'd think if its big enough you could get a decent size fire going.
Oh and Darth I found it fore sale on Esty.. they want 1300 for it there
