We had a old cinder block camp that was leveled. I saved about fifty blocks. Put two on its side, together. Got13 concrete pavers/steps,laid three of em across the top of blocks and stood the other around the outer edge of the blocks, held together by bungee straps. Total cost, less than twenty bucks. If you need to move it, take apart.

I've heard that old tractor rims make nice fire pits. Lay out a gravel pad, and put the rim on top. Purchase some paving stones and some construction adhesive to build a nice border around the rim. You can get fairly elaborate to make a great looking fire area with low walls to sit on around it.
You could even take things a few steps farther to make one of these. I believe this uses a truck brake drum for the fire bowl.

The guy that made this used fire bricks under the field stone.

Mine is a tractor rim with a notched disk blade from a disk harrow set inside. It looks great and works even better. I got the rim for free from a local farmer and bought the disk from Agrisupply for about 30 bucks. Measure the inner diameter of the rim and get the disk slightly smaller. Light sanding, high heat black spray paint and off we went.

I use it as a liner for my brick fire pit. You could probably get some key stone shaped retaining wall bricks and make one fairly cheap with them. Liquid nails would hold them together well enough.
