I also think that the message being delivered to the minority groups that they are perpetual victims actually FUELS the dysfunction.

It robs individuals of the confidence and power to make changes in their lives and overcome adversity.
True, but lets not act like some of the issues that are being brought up aren't legit. There is an inherent bias that is built into the system that needs to be addressed

Why don't you just post this on his FB page?

Because he would get less attention there.

"Gary's philosphy seems to be if you're black in Baton Rouge and you aren't successful, it's the white man's fault. And if you're black in Baton Rouge and you are successful, you're not a true Black person. He's holding back his own people. I like people who work hard and aspire to do great things. I don't care what color skin they have. Ambition and perseverance are key qualities. I'd never think less of anyone who was named to a Baton Rouge Business Report list."

What conclusion did you come up with?

Just did a gene test on my kid and found out he's part black. Any chance you could do one of these on him? He's pretty smart and would really get a kick out of it..

Well that goes on both sides then. It is easy for anyone to say that when they aren't being directly impacted by it though. Let's take a look at some of the clear biases that contribute to the racial strife that we face. Cocaine. The sentences for possessing powder cocaine have been way less harsh than possessing crack cocaine. Why is that? Should possession of cocaine be just as bad being that it is the key ingredient for crack?

I'm not nit picking here. I think I know what you mean, but I honestly do not see any systemic racial injustice in the criminal justice system.

There are individuals who act with racial biases. That is true and it's deplorable.

The system may also be criticized (or more accurately, critiqued) for exacerbating the problem of poor black families when criminals are given long jail sentences and little effective rehabilitation causing more chaos in their communities. While that may be true, there have not been any successful alternative approaches that have proved successful on a grand scale.

But I think that a cooperative approach instead of a "victims need to protest to get recognized" approach would better empower minority groups and lead to better outcomes.

Not to mention the "cry wolf" effect when every little thing results in cries of racism.

The negative effect of low self worth, low self image, lack of confidence is a very big problem and it is absolutely fueled by the psychological mantle of victimhood.

Read my post above and it explains some of the inherent biases of the system. It isn't the system itself, but judges being able to have the opportunity to be biased against any demographic they choose.
