Kind of a long read but interesting.
They aren’t just thrown from a beach, rather taken out ~40 miles and dropped.
Gulf Stream takes it into the atoantic and they wash up in various countries such as: Portugal, Ireland and France.
I’m amazed at the variation to arrive in such broad locations

Laura's bottle is the fifth to be found out of the roughly 70 bottles Schambach's classes have had placed in the Gulf Stream — a warm and swift ocean current that runs along the North Carolina coast before crossing the Atlantic Ocean. The first bottle was discovered in northern Portugal a year after Schambach started the project in 2013, and three others have been found along the coast of France. The most recent bottle was found in September 2017, when a man discovered a barnacle-encrusted bottle nestled in a patch of seaweed in Normandy. Another one was found in northern France around the same time. "Two bottles both found in France, but one had drifted a year longer," Schambach said. "We were amazed."

Is this your first time learning about the gulf stream?

I believe they call it a Gulf Stream but I assume jet stream is for the people in the know?
And to be honest I knew these existed but couldn’t name any gulf streams off the top of my head

No wonder my last flight was so bumpy

That is the thing. It is unvaried.

Sorry about the sick kiddo. You should really edit it back to jet stream and just own it.

My understanding is that the Gulf Stream is just another way for man to exert his dominance over women by naming a powerful force of nature after his own elimination pattern of a “urine stream”.
We men have to stop mansplaining to mother earth’s ocean.
It’s like we are raping the ocean.
Literally.

Wonder if it was an SOS to the world

Were they arrested for littering and illegal dumping? This contributes to the poisoning of the oceans and they should be arrested for it

Can you elaborate on this?

Wouldn’t the glass bottle just sink to the bottom and sit on the sand?
Not like they’re tossing floating plastic bottles into the water

So they’re just throwing trash into the ocean? Seems dumb
Posted on 3/5/19 at 5:19 pm to SouthernImmigrant
Still human trash unceremoniously dumped into the ocean for no other purpose other than curiosity.
If they wanted to learn about ocean currents, they could have simply opened a book or read a news story like this one
Rubber duckies serve double purpose: Entertainemnt and Education
At least in this incident less advantaged people get bath toys instead of just someone’s trash with some sarcastic note

That's why I always stuff a note into my beer bottle before I pitch it out of my car window. Now it's not littering but a message to the cons picking up trash.

They sent an SOS to the world.

I once found a message in a balloon. It was released by a kid in the eighth grade in Texas, and came to rest on my parent's place in Grant parish.
I wrote back and reported where I found the balloon, and got a nice letter from the kid. Apparently, I was the first one to find one of their balloons. They were marking the locations of all the balloons were found. Class project.
