What’s the hiring process and job like?

Seriously considering applying if it’s what it seems. I’m not sure what the money is like but there’s worse things to do in life than spend your days in America’s National parks.

You can create your profile at USAJobs.gov and apply all over the country in federal positions. The hiring process can be lengthy bc of the government. When I first got hired in Glacier, I was reached out to about a month after my application status was moved on to "referred" and once I accepted the job it took 6 weeks for background checks to be completed. All in all, from the point of applying for a particular job to actually starting said job it was roughly 3.5 months. The pay depends on whether you're GS or WG, and what level you are (typically 2-9).

My brother lives there. Said it was -7 degrees at their Christmas party last week. But he says nbd it's just a dry heat

I can vouch for that

Anything over 20 degrees is "t-shirt weather." What I like to call no long underwear days.

Any Recommendations?

North Fork is less developed and less accessible than West Glacier and east Glacier, but still doable via the North Fork Road up towards Polebridge. Cabins and what not on FS land... no actual park facilities other than a couple front country campgrounds (Bowman and Kintla) and some comfort stations. The nearest goods are located at the Mercantile in Polebridge (just outside the park entrance).

Other accommodations are an hour South in Columbia Falls.

I have about a year left of nursing school. Prior military with some field medical experience also.

Are there any medical staff positions with NPS? I checked USAJobs but don’t see anything. Also, one thing I considered was travel nursing during most of the year and trying to work for the NPS as medical personnel or something like that during the peak season. I read an article about a guy who did that. He basically worked as a travel nurse for half the year and worked at Denali NP in Alaska as part of their search and rescue team providing medical service. Can you provide any info on this?

How does it compare to Livingston Parish? If you can guarantee there are no roundabouts I may move.

You go to the Great Northern for football games? If so I'm sure y'all have crossed paths. He's there for plenty of LSU and Saints games

I did once this season. Normally I worked Saturdays in the park tho. Last fall I watched a few at the firebrand.

One of these days I'm gonna spend more than a pass thru in Bozeman.

Looks like a pleasant place to live!
