What does doing something special for Valentine's Day have anything to do with that?
Feeling obligated/pressured to do something and then doing it, doesn't signify an act of love, it just means you completed a chore.

Why does it bother you how other couples spend their time and/or money?

For once I'd like to see a man get flowers from a woman.

This isn't about me, or something bothering me or not bothering me. This is about bitchassness.

Your wife is a lucky lady. I'm sure she is 100% on board with your nonconformist, anticonsumerist views

It's a metaphor for a woman doing something for the man on Valentine...just once I'd like to see it. Yeah, some guy will come in here and say "oh, she does but it's in the bedroom" to look cool and alpha. But in reality, most guys are let their women dictate what's what before and after they squirt their load.

I treat my wife with respect and do "special" things for her all year long. She reciprocates by treating me with the same respect. Relationships like this can be had by Men and Women....you may figure that out one day

Sometimes those chores mean something more to someone else, and taking that under consideration to contribute to a relationship is kind of important. It's also one of the fundamentals of being an adult.

My wife and I lived together before we were married right after I graduated from College. It was my fist job and it was in an office full of women. Not one of them got flowers on Valentine's Day sent to the office and you could see a few of them were not happy about it. Finally around 3:30pm a delivery van pulls up and all the women were hoping it was for them. To their dismay it was a Cookie Bouquet for me sent to me by my soon to be wife.
