They’ve been building that fricker for over half of my lifetime. I have no idea how they can be that slow but somehow they were able to build them far more quickly in the 50s.

Politicians in Mississippi had to buy a bunch of land near all the future freeway exits first. That takes time.

In the 50s, the politicians had already bought up all the land, not just around the exits, well ahead of time.

How long would it take to do that?

We aren't. This is TN/MS. All of our I-10 traffic comes right through the city

How long did this entire outer loop take to construct and what was the total cost?

I think Memphis is a good bit larger than Baton Rouge as well.

Probably not. Especially when all the tax paying citizens move to better places.

Because back in the 50's all you had to do was purchase the land and construct. Now you have to have a permit every time you turn around and that is AFTER you produce a literal ton of bullshite, I mean documentation showing that the development will not adversely effect the environment.

As much as that sounds like the cool thing to say, the correct answer is the cold war and lessons learned from WWII

The US saw the need to speed along interstate commerce and the transit of military assets. We had to rapidly build our highways in case the Soviets attacked

Also the quality of our highways are much improved from the 50's making them more expensive to construct as well.

They have. In Shreveport.

Yes, but this "loop" in Memphis doesn't appear to cross the Mississippi... for one to be effective in Baton Rouge it would need at least one, preferably two river crossings... that shite's expensive.

This is what Baton Rouge needs to build:

Your forgetting the necessity of having a parallel feeder road to the loop. For entrance and exit purposes.

Y'all need to figure out roads that can be re tooled into the loop as these roads first.

Unless you think Baton Rouge is capable of constructing 2 loops simultaneously.

...that's the problem.

They tried building houses for the homeless deep in the East but even the East has NIMBYers.

That's what the loop is for!

Then I think of Baton Rouge and I get sad.
