I think Pete will get into the hall of fame the year he passes away. Your Pete rose card will definitely go up then. A shame that he can't get in based just on his play on the field.

Not shitting you, to this day it still pisses me off that most of my collection was stolen when I was kid.
I remember being about 8/9 years old and my mom agreed to take me to my favorite collectible place in south lake Charles to get my stuff evaluated. We had to stop at delchamps on the way, and of course I left them in the back seat of the car and doors unlocked. Came out and everything was gone
My life was ruined. Lol

Probably stung alot more back then but looking at some of the prices of cards now from the past they really aren't valued that much. Autographed cards are big now. I think the most value for me now was attending the shows and learning about scrubs because I actually looked at almost every card numerous times not just the superstars.

I still cherish my 1968 Nolan Ryan Rookie. Also have a Wayne Gretzky rookie.
I bet I can name the player without seeing the name on 90% of 1978, 79, or 80 Topps cards just by looking at the photo.

Yep. My time would be early 80's with naming all the players from that era. I had older gentlemen at work amazed at my knowledge of all sports because I read and looked thru my collection numerous times. My earliest card that I actually collected and didn't buy at a show was a 1980 Rickey Henderson rookie. I can see the card in my head now. Funny how our brains remember shite like this.
I have a l980 Nolan Ryan and JR Richard. Loved the Astros growing up

I collected from about 86-92 or so. I wish I could go find all of my old cards. My parents claim they are in the attic or somewhere but I haven't seen them in years.
One if my neighbors was running a little scam and I always wondered if anyone else tried this? He would take the packs of Upper Deck cards (which were made of a sort of foil material) and carefully open them right along the seam. He would remove the good cards and replace them with common cards. We would then somehow use an iron to seal the pack back up.
He sold and traded the packs to other kids on the school bus and stuff.

I still buy a football and baseball set every year. I've also gotten into collecting autograph cards.

I still have my collection of nearly 2000 cards from the 80s and early 90s but this may have been my favorite, even though it wasn't nearly the most valuable.

I remember people setting up card tables in Bon Marche Mall once in a great while. They sold really old and valuable cards that now make up the best part of the collection I share with my brother. Of course, they were in pretty bad shape, but as a 13 year old I didn't care. A beat up Mickey Mantle was still awesome.
Hey I remember all that too. That could only mean one thing...could it be?.... You must be my....impossible!

My all time favorite card... I remember how excited I was when I got it.

Not only the original frick face, but the scratch out, scratch out with a loop, and blacked out (box covering the frick face) all had different values.

I spent so much time at my local card shop that the owner started letting me run the place when he wanted off or did card shows and such on the weekends. He would pay me with packs. Great times!

I quit collecting before Upper Deck came out, but I'd buy several packs of, say, Donruss, open them carefully, take out the ones I needed and seal the pack back up with a spot of glue. I'd go back to the store, tell them my mother bought me the wrong brand of cards, and exchange them for Fleer or Topps..and repeat.

Started in '87 with the wood grain Topps and the bubble gum that tasted a little bit like they had rescued it off the bottom of a public elementary school desk from the '50s.
My brother and I actually collected that entire wood grain set by buying packs. In the end we did have to buy about 30 worthless cards that would never land in the packs. We have years of unopened, plastic wrapped full sets. I remember at one time freaking out over the amount of Eric Davis rookies and McGuire Olympic cards we had. For birthdays and Christmas our parents would buy us sub-mint Mantle and Robinson cards. We subscribed to Beckett monthly. Good times.
