Mellow Mushroom near LSU cancels karaoke nights after string of violent crime

The karaoke nights at Mellow Mushroom on Burbank Drive are no more due to a string of violent crimes in the area.

The restaurant decided to cancel karaoke Wednesdays after a number of incidents. A 22-year-old man was shot and killed at The Armstrong apartment complex at the beginning of the month, and on Monday night another shooting happened at the Taco Bell next door.

Gunfire broke out at Mellow Mushroom in the early morning of Jan. 17. As a mob of people fled the scene, a driver trying to leave was attacked by the group. The driver was beaten and the car sustained damages.

In addition to the shootings, there have also been a rash of car break-ins at apartment complexes near LSU. On Jan. 4., 28 vehicles were burglarized overnight at Oakbrook Apartments, Wildwood Baton Rouge and Woodlands of Baton Rouge, according to WAFB.

Mellow Mushroom declined a request for comment.
