I won't pretend to know how megachurch's work. I attend a moderately sized church, and we might pay someone to come lead a kids or youth conference (would have a registration fee), but never for a guess pastor. At the most, feed them and provide lodging, either a hotel or a member provide a room.
To my knowledge, guest speakers at megachurches typically get a small amount of money ($1-3k) for speaking during the weekend. It's something, but it's nothing compared to what they get from speaking at big conferences (tens of thousands).

I'm passionate, or try to be passionate, about my faith, sure. Trying to live out my faith doesn't make me miserable at all. The idea of people following strict rules and are downtrodden and lifeless, without joy, isn't my reality. I live this way because I believe it's right.

If you’re a Christian why don’t you like trump?

learned from a guy I know that does motivational speaking that $3k is the magic figure to ask for because that's typically the cutoff for spending funds that don't have to go before CFO or comptroller for approval(could have been upped, he told me this a few years back)

That’s why the Catholic Church won’t allow priests being married. They don’t want to share that money.

Know that there is hypocrisy, but it comes from people, not scripture.
People banging the drum about sin but living in it themselves.

I bought that exact car for my daughter two yrs ago. She wanted some dumb weird thing but i convinced her that she would like a Lamborghini. Then i had to get my other daughter a similar car...the things parents do to bride their kids just so they can get that grocery shopping done. I think that is the real reason publix has a toy aisle
Eta. I have no problem with a decent salary but not exotic car worthy unless ..family money?
But still i would think the "moth and rust doth corrupt" principle would apply ...my pastor drives an Honda Accord but frequently takes the bus as a means to get to know people

It's a pretty common practice for parents to raise their kids in the way they seem is right, but it's brainwashing if christians do it. Makes sense.
I was just referring back to your post about letting them make their own decisions on what they believe.
My parents absolutely left no doubt as to what was right or wrong and I was forced to go to church and CCD for years. So I know how that goes.

That's got to be a conundrum for some folks. "He's claiming to be super conservative and religious-ish, so I should love him. But he's also a scumbag who lies and cheats with a regularity that has rarely, if ever, been seen before at that level of office..."

Megachurches are terrible.
Unless you're high up in one. Get it on the money train while you can.

No. It's brainwashing if you force the child to throw reason and logic out the window.
It would be brainwashing for me to convince my kids that the dishwasher is actually a time machine that they can only activate when they are an adult. But, it's not brainwashing to teach my kids how to use the dishwasher and put away clean dishes.

Someone needs to remind this pastor about 1 Timothy 3:3
No use, Protestants and non-denoms just ignore Timothy anyway. He destroys their entire "Faith alone" doctrine.
ETA: Got Timothy confused with James for a minute, even though Paul's letter to Timothy does talk about works, it's James that talks about faith without works.

lead a horse to water...
I mean, I firmly believe a life loving Jesus is the only way to true and lasting happiness. Why would I NOT tell the people I love the most about it? I can't force them to believe it, but it's something you have to share.

The disconnect comes from I don't believe God is imaginary. He's real, created us, loves us, and listens to us. You obviously don't. So while we're on those sides of it, won't get anywhere.

The fact that so many people buy into what Megachurches are selling and continue to tithe to them is a serious indictment on our society.
There are a lot of stupid, easily manipulated people in this country. Pretty damn sad tbh.
they're selling the same thing as "normal" churches, they're just more bold and charismatic about it.

same could be said of anybody who believes in a 2000 year old book that claims to have been inspired by god.
