Richland Plantation in St Francisville would be my first purchase. 1000 acres currently listed for 7,500,000. One of the nicest properties in the state.

Of all of the places you can buy some amazing homes in for 7.5 million, you're going to choose St Francisville?

I know they all say this, but I just don't see me ending up being part of that statistic. 300k-500k a month... WTF does one need more than that for?

This is true when accounting for all lottery winners including the ones that take home the 1,000,000 state lotto. It is not true when talking about 100's of millions lotto winners

In reality I don't need the jackpot - I just want a few hundred thousand dollars.

If you win the $1 million prize, do you actually get the entire amount (before taxes of course) or is it the same amortized bullchit?

I believe you get the 1,000,000 minus taxes.

First, how did you get 118 million after taxes?

You should basically assume that you get you pay the maximum 37.5% federal and 6% state in income tax. That leaves about $95 million.

Second, if you ever win a lottery your first call should be to a tax lawyer.

Mega Millions Jackpot Analysis
I realize there are other taxes and I'd be glad to pay them and end up with "only" 80 million if I need to.

With your 350k/month, I would start to acquire a lot of land. It is a beautiful resource that appreciates and you can collect royalties off of timber and minerals over lifetimes.

The 24% is what they have to withhold. You're still going to owe the additional 13.5%. You'll then have to pay us pretty much a straight 6% state tax. You'd probably clear about $95 million.

If you win the lottery, the first thing you should do is contact the tax lawyer, in particular, one who specializes in estate and gift tax.

The 30% federal and state taxes are accurate for smaller jackpots usually under 5 million. However when it comes to the massive national jackpot amounts they’re gonna steal closer to 50%.

So if you choose that 167 million cash payout, you’ll see somewhere around 80-90 million.
