And I think with winning this I would take care of most relatives and friends. But people will come out of the woodwork.
a series of trust for whatever family you need to pay off. Make it to where they can't touch for a little while. If they buy anything they will end up like Johnny Roastbeef in the back of his pink caddie.
this is all set up without their knowledge of the winnings until i present paperwork. Nothing is on their terms.
the next stop is that i won't be seen for awhile.

giving my family/friends a lump sum
I always wondered if I could anonymously pay off their mortgages and whatnot
it would probably be hard to stay under the radar if I'm the grandchild/friend/etc. that just built a lazy river around my house though

Is that enough to buy Twitter and shut it down?

Yep - freaking bolt to New Zealand and hide out in a compound with guards!!
Seriously - imagine taking half of it and doing good for this world. Unlike most of the elite that have nothing but infinite greed, you could do some great stuff to help the world.

We do that with every paycheck now.

I probably overthink things, but I’ve read some real horror stories from lottery winners. Winning that amount of money sounds great, but it creates a ton of negative life factors. When I think about those, my current life situation seems really good.
I’ll take that chance.

I was in a lottery group when I was a golf professional with some of the employees of the member owned golf club where we worked. I left and went to Germany to teach/play and damned if they didn't win a big one. I went back for a reunion and most of the winners were still working at the club. When I asked why, the consensus was that it was a great place to work with good benefits and the money would be there when they decided to leave/retire.

You get to go live an anonymous life somewhere isolated from everything you currently love.
I would love being isolated. I personally would want to live at my fishing camp along the coast primarily and have a house on a ton of land some where close (within 50 miles) to town for when I want to go to a nice place to eat. And I would have a vac beach house. I believe I could remain pretty anonymous, outside close friends and relatives, and live a great life. I would never be flashy with my winnings.

Damn... How much was the jackpot?

LOL at people in this thread acting like winning a billion dollars is a bad thing. The taxes, the constant pleading for handouts from family and friends, the loss of privacy. Oh the horror. That’s what the money is for.
I don't think anyone is necessarily saying it's a "bad thing" but it certainly creates a number of quandaries for ordinary people.
Would you know what to immediately do with $1 billion that falls in your lap for which you could be sure will keep it safe? I'm not sure I do.
Would you have anyone YOU COULD TRUST who would? I would suggest this is probably the biggest hurdle. I probably know a person or two who could at least point me in the right direction, but shite, I'd still be wary and jumpy as hell about who I'm trusting.

$65 million. This was a Florida Lottery only. I think each winner got around 2.5 mil.
ETA, they took a lump sum so it wasn't the full $65 million, each winner got around a million.

that's why you put the winning ticket in a safety deposit box, if you don't feel safe handling it or keeping it secure on your own, and then go talk to an attorney and financial advisor. People that go straight to the lottery office to claim the prize aren't the smartest.

Is there any way to stay anonymous?
You can avoid the initial mania by receiving the money through a trust and laying low for a while. I wouldn't tell a soul but my lawyers/ financial advisors and my wife (not even my adult kids) or live large for at least 2 months. You need some time to let locals and the media kind of forget about it.
When / if you decide the share money with family and friends, somebody is going to slip up and put the finger on you. After that, you just have to deal with telling moochers and hustlers "NO", and stay insured.

It takes a really miserable person to only think of all the negative things that would happen to you if you won $750 million.
It’s not thinking ONLY of the negative things. The positive things are really easy to think about. Considering the full implications of winning is what I was trying to do. Big difference between negative and realistic.

I wasn't talking about the ticket.
It was more along the lines of what you're saying (and others have said similarly) "go talk to an attorney and financial advisor." How many of those do you have on your contact list, who you know and trust very well, who routinely handle billion dollar personal accounts?

I was thinking about this last night, and I kind of agree with you. You'd need a trustworthy lawyer for trusts, etc., a great accountant, a great financial advisor, etc. I don't trust myself to pick them.
If you plan to have a lawyer claim the prize on behalf of your trust, I'd videotape every conversation I had with that guy before handing over the ticket. Hell, I'd probably ride in the car with him to the lottery office with a gun in my belt.

99.9999% of attorneys in reality:

Not really panic buying just that a lot more people find it worth the $2 to drop on a chance at a billion even if those chances are virtually non existent
