from reading this, hard to place much blame on the mother

quote:

I was taking a pic of the female gorilla, when my eldest son yells, “what is he doing? ” I looked down, and to my surprise, there was a small child that had apparently, literally “flopped” over the railing, where there was then about 3 feet of ground that the child quickly crawled through! ! I assumed the woman next to me was the mother, getting ready to grab him until she says, “Whose kid is this? ” None of us actually thought he’d go over the nearly 15 foot drop, but he was crawling so fast through the bushes before myself or husband could grab him, he went over! The crowed got a little frantic and the mother was calling for her son. Actually, just prior to him going over, but she couldn’t see him crawling through the bushes! She said “He was right here! I took a pic and his hand was in my back pocket and then gone!” As she could find him nowhere, she lookes to my husband (already over the railing talking to the child) and asks, “Sir, is he wearing green shorts? ” My husband reluctantly had to tell her yes, when she then nearly had a break down! They are both wanting to go over into the 15 foot drop, when I forbade my husband to do so, and attempted to calm the mother by calling 911 and assure her help was on the way. “The mother was not negligent and the zoo did an awesome job handling the situation!” Lykins wrote.

Insane that the zoo would have a spot where it's possible for a child to crawl in.

I know the mom still said "no! no youre not!" etc. etc., but clearly she has set a precedence of saying things that the boy does not give two shits about. Her parenting still isn't worthy of being blameless. If your child respects and listens to you, then the child will listen in that moment. Am I wrong?

But also, the zoo perhaps should have had more staff or better protection around that exhibit. still, for a 4 year old to be able to climb 2 barriers the parents were definitely distracted for more than a split second.

This. We need to see the layout of the exhibit to judge, but unless the 4 year old is a parkour master.

you're not completely wrong

but the kid is also 4 years old

and I've never met a 4 year old that listens 100% of the time, have you?

Oh this thread has been full of it. What started in all likelihood as a tragic accident has spiraled into a racially-charged debate between those with sympathy and those without.

Black? Check.

Criminal history? Check.

Overweight? Check.

Kids? Check.

Potential lawsuit? Check.

Throw in an animal being killed AND that animal being a gorilla and this is like fricking Christmas for the sick fricks of the OT.

you are the only sick frick in this thread that i've seen attempt to make this connection.

The people placing blame on either A or B are retarded in this thread. It's a combination of frick ups, from the parents as well as the zoo. The zoo should have a better barrier set up but the parents should also recognize that and watch their damn kid.

I don't understand why in situations like this, it has to be one or the other with some people. It also is completely irrelevant that the parents are black. This board is so racist at times.

Yes, you are. He was 4 years old. 4 year olds don't listen sometimes, regardless of the amount of respect. We've all got a dad or a grandpa who talks about how tough it was for him as a child, but he still acted up. It happens.

Just look at that "little shithead" and that "little frick" kid.

Yes in this instance. 4 year olds barely listen to anyone.

Perhaps the admins have done work then. The comparisons between the mother and the gorilla was made a few times already.

You forget. This is the OT where 21 year olds who do not have children can definitely tell you how easy it is to raise children.

Does anyone know if the gorilla was already in the moat or it went down to get the boy? It just seems from the video that steep drop is designed to keep the gorillas pretty much on an island and their side looks to be as big a drop as the peoples side.

You can quickly gauge who has children and who does not based on a thread like this. It's not 100% foolproof, but it is probably the most distinguishable characteristic in this "debate".

Good thing the basket and rope are things I carry at all times. It's so handy.

some people would completely expect the gorilla to just step aside and let the rescue team do it's job.

I'd expect a 400 lb. gorilla to grab that basket and throw it across the enclosure like a toy.
