Also, the zoo tried to get the gorillas to leave the exhibit in order to isolate the child and get him out without harming the others but only the female gorillas cooperated. At that point they made the decision to shoot the male and said they'd do it again if they had to. The idea that there was any solution other than to shoot the gorilla at that point is ridiculous.

Yeah, and the fact that the gorilla was trying to protect the kid is entirely irrelevant. A gorilla, specifically a male in his teens, has no idea about his strength relative to a 4 year old child. Plus this was a highly erratic moment in its life. They clearly had to kill him.

That's the definition of racism right?

Every time I took my 4 year olds to zoos, or any large parks (water parks, fairs, etc.), I always considered the possibility of something bad happening. They're 4. They need parents to look out for them. And it really isn't difficult to grab their hand and hold it. Either me or my wife regularly held the hands of our 4 year olds in circumstances such as these.

Don't start this shite mj. This is an anonymous message board so people feel protected to let their true selves shine. If this was Facebook that "mother looks like the gorilla" comment wouldn't be said because that asshat doesn't want anyone to know his true feelings.

I think there are people on here who troll for sure, but the majority of people who make those kind of comments are deep-rooted racists. It is what it is. They may suppress it a times, but their true feelings are apparent here and they likely manifest themselves in different areas of that person's life.

there's the sticking point. I don't see anyone trying to do the bolded part of this. I see mockery, insult and stereotyping but that's about it.

Come on...you're unaware of how blacks used to be compared to primates and monkeys all the time? Hell, they still throw bananas at black soccer players in Europe. Don't play dumb.

how do you know these parents didn't either 95% of the time?

How is it being glossed over? That obviously isn't happening in this thread and elsewhere on the internet.

i see them. I can understand people getting upset at some of them but i just don't see any of those comments being in the realm of racism.

If you think so little of another human being, particularly in this situation, to mock them, insult them, and make stereotypical comments about looking like a gorilla, is there really any doubt that the person feels as though they're superior to that person's race?

On the flip side, would those same exact comments be made if the couple was white? No, of course not.

Would people be insulting and irate? Probably, but no one is going to suggest the white mother looks like a gorilla. Race is 100% playing a part in these reactions.

comparing a black person to a gorilla is racist. There's really no other way to look at it, and you won't convince me otherwise.

The kid climbed a 3 foot wall and crawled through bushes before falling.

Really? I'm sure that didn't all happen in one second. Your 4 year old had enough time to scale a wall and crawl through bushes. Child negligence.

Without a doubt. I'm usually not one to accuse something or someone as being racially motivated or racist, but this is clear as day.

I'm very conservative politically and I'm just as disgusted by these comments as I am of the many black people I know who defend and love Obama just because he's half-black.

how the hell would someone?

Anyway, i just think people have faux outrage for shite like this. People being offended for someone else seems like the thing to do these days.

I agree. And we had 4 boys, so trust me, they got injured all the time. There was no way we could stop everything from happening and we knew it. We learned to accept that.

My only point, is that in a public setting, with inherent danger all around, along with lots of people, when it came to a 4 year old, it was a different ballgame. The level of looking out for them rose dramatically. Now, as they got older, it lessened. But 4 years old? One of us held the hand of the 4 year old, while the other took care of the other child.
