the illegals brought this here and the reason they don't know the vac status or have any information on these people is because they aren't from the US

I am not sure that makes much real difference in the discussion vis-a-vis vaccination given the better part of 100 million people visit the US each year from every corner of the planet. If you stopped vaccinating for polio, as an example, it would just be a matter of time before an infected person from one of the areas that still have wild polio walked through Times Square and set off a chain reaction.

The Surgeon General's letter sounds much more broad than just COVID vaccines. He mentioned COVID as a point of eroding trust but speaks much more broadly about vaccines as a whole. It sounds like they'll stock vaccines but won't promote any as a Health Department.

IMO that's a pretty big public health error. Understandable at this point to not promote COVID vaccines but flu and regular, evidence-based vaccine schedules are going to cause much larger issues.

Actually, the statement from Ralph Abraham was about all vaccines. He said that Louisiana will not promote mass vaccination. That includes polio, measles, and everything else. He said:
quote:

For the past couple of decades, public health agencies at the state and federal level have viewed it as a primary role to push pharmaceutical products, particularly vaccines. Some have even referred to this practice as the “cornerstone” of public health. There are some appropriate examples of government recommendations, such as encouraging routine screenings like colonoscopies or Pap smears and facilitating access, especially for the poor. But promotion of specific pharmaceutical products rises to a different level, especially when the manufacturer is exempt from liability for harms caused by the drug, as is the case for many vaccines. It is understood that the products pushed will benefit some and cause harm to others, but public health pushes them anyway with a one-size-fits-all, collectivist mentality whose main objective is maximal compliance.

Under this ideology, the sacrifice of a few is acceptable and necessary for the “greater good.”

As Americans, we should recognize that our rights come to us as individuals. We should reject this utilitarian approach and restore medical decision-making to its proper place: between doctors and patients. Perhaps there are some treatments that every human being should take, but they are few and far between, and things that are good generally don’t have to be pushed by the government. Medical decision-making is a zero-sum game: when outside forces get involved, patient autonomy is sacrificed. We should empower people to make better decisions for themselves, keeping in mind that maximizing benefits for individuals will lead to maximal benefit for the population as a whole.

Anyone who lumps all vaccines together is a fricking moron and shouldn't be listened to by others.

They should each be approached independently.

The COVID shot isn't even a "vaccine". That shite is something entirely different.

Good thing democrats let in 20 million unvaccinated people during a global pandemic.

Then wouldn't it make sense from a public health perspective, if the concern is unvaccinated illegals, to promote the MMR (and it's booster for adults)?

Because of COVID we've had a huge pendulum swing from COVID mandates to not wanting to mandate/promote any vaccines because of lack of public trust.

Surely folks can see where that's an issue?

I know, right? Weird how people keep bringing it up in a thread about a measles outbreak.

Tends to happen when you sell vaccines to the public which arent vaccines.

The govt spending millions fighting free speech was the nail in the coffin. No one trust them now.
