Free refills are one of the things that makes the US great. Absolute horseshite to get an 8 ounce can when you order a soft drink in another country for the same price.

McDonalds is purely a convenience option. They are everywhere, they are usually fast, and it isn’t that expensive.
The quality is terrible, and you also have the risk or being handed the wrong order or get asked to pull forward for an indefinite period of time.
I’ve learned that I can save a lot by going inside to order. I’ve found that when I see the condition of the food preparation areas at McDonalds, I am far less likely to order anything at all and just skip lunch.
That said…the fountain drink quality is usually very good. It’s true that McDonalds has a slightly different method of managing their fountains than other restaurants. They designed a system that makes their soft drinks taste consistent.

I used to keep a burger king cup with me and if I wanted a coke or something, I would just stole up in BK with the cup (it had to be when they were busy), fill it up and leave... If you are trying to increase profits thats a smart move.

2 sausage biscuits and a small drink. Refilled a couple times
You had two sausage biscuits and two soft drinks for breakfast on a random Wednesday? How often do you eat like this in the morning?

If someone was with me I would ask them to go do it

But if I was by myself and they were busy, I think maybe they thought I was with someone who ordered for me. I'd put the cup on my left side, go fill it up, put a top on it and leave I guess before people had time to even registered what I did..

Needing a refill from a fast food restaurant is a huge indictment of yourself.
That McDonald’s Sprite is like crack, though.

I'm surprised they're still in business. Food is bad. Too expensive. Customer service is awful. How do they survive?
It feels like we're inching closer to the future imagined in Demolition Man where Taco Bell is the only restaurant chain that exists anymore.

I'm sure it has to do with waste. Much like all you can eat deals, people take as much as they want regardless of if they will eat it all. It's why those places started charging for wasted food.
It's a reasonable compromise to remove the self serve but still keep refills free on request.

Idk, once a week?
I also just got done lifting and playing basketball and I run 6 miles a day and only eat a piece a fruit for lunch, so
What does Wednesday have to do with it?

They are moving towards options that reduce labor costs such as heavily pushing the app.
This will increase labor costs, thus the refill charge.
Now we touch the real issue. People who bri g their own cups and fill them up without paying for a drink.
This is similar to the self checkout fraud that’s big in retail right now

Let's hope only a small number of McDonald's locations actually start charging for refills. Places like Vegas, Los Angeles, New York City, sure, they can charge extra to account for the homeless peeps who just sit there all day and refill those cups.

Why should drink refills be free? Do you get more fries when you run out? How about chicken nuggets?
Marginal cost relative to keeping customers happy.

It’s the strangest thing, but McDonald has never once made me feel sick in any way. Never gave me diarrhea, nothing. And unless I just gorge and go crazy, I feel great after eating it.

Not everyone who eats at McDonald's is a fat slob.
