It may or may not. If you cut your leg with a chainsaw, you have to at least try to stop the gushing blood though. Especially when the onlookers just want to bleed you out.

First Exxon, Formosa, Entergy, Uop, and the old Stauffer Chemical plant (change name to
Company that presently owns the site) in an industrial park for tax purposes. BR does not need to annex them there is no benefit and state set these up to give the plants protection from restrictions along with tax incentives.
EBRP side of consolidated govt already shares the taxes from Exxon and other plants in the industrial park with all the cities (Zachary, Central, Baker, BR). Now they will have to split a certain percentage of those taxes with St George if they become a city in time.
The metro council form of government already has financial problems and that is from a former council person. The city of BR is overspending where they take money dedicated for parish services to pay for The City of BR services.
Having a city in the Southern portion of the parish will eventually benefit this part of the parish.
It probably hurt the city of BR. If the city of BR was using our tax dollars wisely they would not be in this situation. They chose and still choose to blow money on wants not needs.

I do not know how this works to the highest end, but maybe JBE tries some emergency executive BS?

There was an article regarding EBR debt and how we were over leveraged and that was before the last round of tax increases.
They have been using more and more parish revenues to pay city bills. That is out on the open now.

Because there certainly have been no increases in taxes in Baton Rouge the last 20 years

How do you get 1/5 our 45%? "If you took the 2018 Budget and excluded statutory requirements, debt service obligations, and public safety then the remainder of the budget would have to be reduced by 45% to balance the budget with a revenue reduction of $48.3 million."

The city-parish estimates it would lose $48.3 million annually, or about one-fifth of its general fund.
Are they starting to get more honest about why they oppose?

Supporting an ISD would have been a lot cheaper for everyone involved.
Going to the state Senate to kill the ISD and saying “form a city then try again” was one of the biggest bonehead moves that the BR side could have done.

Good.
I hope it does lose that money.
The mayor and the other folks in charge need to understand what it like when you let a city crumble and atand by and do nothing because you don’t want to hurt peoples feelings

Middle class people think homestead exemption is helping them but it isn't. Tax revenue has to hit a certain point so millage has to be set to raise the money in spite of the $75,000 exemption.
Bingo. It's just another progressive tax.

Think about this, they are robbing SG to pay city bills now and they admit that they are short 76 cops, they don't have enough workers in permits and inspections and they need to give their workers a pay raise.
If they had 76 more cops and more people in inspections and permitting; how would they pay them?

It's been obvious all along. They are just starting to panic and finally admit their true intentions.
