I pulled a 6 footer off the shore 10 or so feet by the tail in a college drunken stupor and got a good taste of it’s power and definitely could’ve taken it if I had to. In the water, not standing depth, is a different story,

4 feet, and that's pushing it

8 ft + you’d be in trouble without some kind of weapon, especially in the water.
8 feet in the water? Dude, an 8’ alligator is about 200 pounds. No chance against that in the water. Even a six foot alligator, which is about 75 pounds, would be impossible to handle in the water. On land, with plenty of room, and if you knew what you were doing, you could probably have the odds in your favor with anything up to eight feet, but it would be dangerous. The trick would be wearing them out. They have poor stamina. But getting behind a beast like that, jumping on it and clamping its snout, while holding on would be a daring feat.

Ten inches and I might lose a finger.

Take on…in what way? Land, water??
On land, they would be completely defeated if you had to because they don’t have the opening jaw strength…it’s the closing jaw strength that can get ya.

this thread is going to tell you a lot about who has and hasn't been around/messed with alligators
I haven’t, I’d like to think it’s because I’m smart.

I said it appears simple enough. The strategy seems simple. Never said I’d do it myself!

Can I have a 32 ounce ball peen hammer?
Posted on 7/3/25 at 7:39 pm to sidewalkside
4-5 feet tops if I don’t have any weapons/tools or means to escape. Maybe less if in the water. Those things are nothing but muscle.
