The result of his death was not because he was ordered to do something. Him drinking it is resulted in his death. I don't support Greeks or not support them, but if someone wanted me to do something that I didn't want to do or may kill me, I would have found a door that leaves the room they are in.

Agreed. Matthew won’t do well in prison.

I don’t see how the guy who killed the old man in the lower garden district has any shot at trial. It will take 2-3 years to get to the point where they are trying the case (probably been 18 months since it happened, right?), but I expect he will eventually take a deal for 20-25 years and serve his time in Hunt.
I wonder where Joe McKnight’s killer is serving his time.

I think some people on this board do not understand, or do not approve of, the definition of negligent homicide in Louisiana.
By the letter of the law, he is guilty. It's that simple.
You may not like the letter of the law, which is fine, but to argue he is innocent of the crime is stupid.

I'm curious how they make "boys into men". Seem like they have fun and make friends and that's all fine, but most of them aren't the most mature in the world.

What I do have a problem with is immature retards taking their newfound freedom after moving out of mommy and daddy's house a step way too fricking far and thinking they're untouchable and forcing their peers to do some of the most humiliating and degrading shite possible just to join a club.
While this seems like a very small minority, it's distressing that their peers aren't standing up to them.
People, if you have kids headed to college, please teach your kids not only to stand up for themselves, but also to stand up to those harming others. Kids, do you really want to associate with those people who will treat your fellow man so poorly?

Right?
These people making the consent argument as a defense to hazing did more damage to their cause of saving and preserving greek life than the people opposed to it.
When your argument is being legislated out of existence, that should tell you how shitty and disgusting it was.
It hastened the end of greek life even faster.

I think it will be appealed, but not overturned unless for some other technical error.

Like I said, it's only a concept and I have no problem with that concept. And I'm pretty sure some boys in frats do change into mature men but not nearly enough of them do if you ask me.
Anecdotal example: My cousin was in a frat and he's one of the best guys I'm proud to know and he's one of the most gentle and kind souls ever where it's hard to believe that he was in a frat. And now he's a married father living a good life with his college sweetheart and their two daughters with a good career going on right now.

Many take that aspect too seriously, but good fraternities do tend to "season" college kids. It's not an experience you can't get through other means, but you've got a person or committee handling a budget of hundreds of thousands of dollars (maybe more), and that person might be 20 years old. You're fundraising, interacting with business leaders, making connections with charities, etc.
I agree fraternity guys aren't the most mature in the world, but that's because they're college guys. I don't think they're any less mature than the average non-fraternity guy, at least in the SEC.

Is he the only one guilty of negligent homicide? Seems impossible.
Why were there only 6 jurors?

“The guy was under 21, was provided with alcohol, and (I assume) you’re cut if you don’t do this.”
The victim was known to party and drink excessively prior to this incident. He bears responsibility in his own death as well. Peer pressure is a bitch though.
