TxWF - you live in LaVernia ? Very good friend lives 5 min from the church as I'm reaching out to him now to make sure he's safe

Sutherland Springs has a population of less than 1,000. Imagine the impact a mass shooting is going to have on that community.

Have they ID'd this piece of shite yet?
I'll never understand how a person could just walk into a church and slaughter innocent people

Early reports are 24 dead. Holy frick.

CNN reporting at least 27 dead.
Shooter reloaded multiple times.
Population of this town was 643 people last year.

I really hope this is a case of somebody confusing "casualties" and "deaths" and [social] media running with it... 20+ deaths would be sickening anywhere, but especially in a small town like that.

The least likely spot in America. Prayers of compassion and acceptance to all those victims , their families and friends.

I'm so hoping that number is an error. My gosh, how can a person do this sort of thing. He's burning in hell right now, thank goodness, but these people are in a living hell right now because of him.

Church members with a carry permit should organize and make sure a few are strapped at every service.
My dad and other members at his church have been doing this a while.

What are the demographics of this town and church?
What about the shooter?
Could this be a hate crime?

Guy just walked into the church and started shooting? Awful

Hearing about friends that were in the church, Jesus what a day. Keep our community in our prayers.

On Fox they said the shooter may be a member of that community!

Exactly why I'm always carrying at church. Shooter may get me, but he's going to have to dodge bullets too.

Hard to find since it's an unincorporated area. The best numbers that I could find are 94.4% white, 1.09% Native American. Probably mostly Hispanic otherwise, given the location.
The racial makeup of the county was 81.19% White, 1.21% Black or African American, 0.58% Native American, 0.30% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 14.25% from other races, and 2.43% from two or more races. 36.52% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
