It is not a red / blue issue, it is a mental health issue....crazy people live in red and blue states and it is far to easy for them to get a gun legally or illegally if they choose (most get them legally) because gun manufacturers have lobbied against preventing it. It really isn't that hard to understand. If you are mentally ill the last thing we should allow you to have is a gun. We should do our best to treat the illness just like cancer but instead we villify and ostracize the afflicted for some ungodly reason and here we are...

Maybe the doctors pushing the nonsense dont report the person being treated for mental illness because they dont view it as mental illness and wouldn't dare make someone as fragile as a trans person's life harder. Maybe they and the FBI/ATF need to start doing their job.
It is....and the FBI and ATF certainly need to do their job...most applicants are approved in about 5 minutes....that is simply not long enough to do an adequate investigation. Of course manufacturers don't want an adequate time because the purchaser may change their mind when they realize they were buying the gun on an impulse and already have plenty at the house....so we treat the transaction about the same a we treat buying a Coke at a convenience store.....and the gun lobby will scream like mashed kitties if anyone suggests we might do better....

This isn't going to change in a low trust society. And a 350m person country with sides pulling in opposite directions and one in particular largely spiteful toward the historical norms of the country isn't going to become more trusting anytime soon.

Did anyone get to read any of the manifesto from the shooter, I have a super-lib friend that shared a video just yesterday that we need to fight to end "Christian Nationalism" and from the images that I have seen this action today sort of falls into line with that thinking.
