After watching those videos, it's obvious that one boat was worse off than the other. The second boat that made it was flyng past the first one as it essentially tried to tread water. Maybe it had less people or a better engine? The one that sunk seemed to have gotten back on track then all of a sudden started taking on water.
The one that got to land seemed to ride perpendicular to the waves which allowed it to get closer to that building where the video was taken and might've had some reduced winds from that position.
The one that sunk was riding straight into the wind and waves. Maybe they were afraid if they did what the other boat did they would capsize from the side so they tried to angle it directly towards land instead.

I'm not certain, but I think the Belle was at the dock.
And, I've seen a couple comments regarding a door. The "door" is located at the left rear of the boat. It's more like a hatch...the side of the boat folds out and down, and the canopy folds up and over the top of the boat. It's a two-piece assembly

stick a fork in that company. they done
So the boats are owned by Ripley Entertainment.
I was thinking more along the lines of “Bob’s Boat Tours.”
Will be interesting how this plays out.

Imagine the survivors guilt on those who were on the surviving boat and rode past the other boat as it struggled to stay afloat. They couldn't have done anything to help, but damn.

That video is tough to watch. I kept imagining what it would be like to be in that boat with my kids.

Yeah it was quite gut wrenching. Not much you can do if you're on the steamboat in the moment, but watching it with hindsight knowing 17 died is awful.

No kidding. That boat looks like a death trap. Way to closed up.

Every time I go to Hot Springs Ark and see those duck boats I just shake my head and wonder why someone would get on one.

They don’t look like clear plastic
Look at the bottom and you can see it's wavy... it looks like that thick clear vinyl stuff.

Pretty sure they open and close somehow. I'm assuming they zipper, snap, or something like that.

I don't see a large door in the front of the boat. So having 30+ people go out that back of a sinking boat may be a major concern.
I said earlier in the thread that when I realized that bitch was sinking lower into the water I would have had a knife out and started cutting open those windows. That way at least everyone has a chance of making an exit.

Well there's some serious money there for sure.

Hard part is getting your kids. If you lose grip in those dark waters and get turned around looking for them.

The alternative is being trapped inside a sinking vessel and trying to get your kids out... I'll take my chances in the open water.

A 1 yr old died.
Fox News Radio just reported a devastating update:
- one family of 11 were aboard, and nine of them are dead.
Oh my gosh, I hope the surviving family has the strength of God, or from whatever source possible, can somehow ease that unimaginable pain.
FNR also said the owner stated the "boat should not have been out in that storm"... so I am speculating that company procedures were overlooked, assuming the owner is not covering-up his own decisions.

Tragic situation. Will be interesting to hear how those that made it got out, while others did not. I wonder how many that didn't make it out were wearing PFD's. As mentioned earlier in the thread having a PFD on inside an enclosed space would make it impossible to exit once it went under.

That's almost assuredly what his attorneys have told him to say.

Sounds like the owner is in CYA mode and placing blame.

Woman whose 15 year old daughter and ex-husband were on the boat said that the captain or driver released the canopy which allowed people to swim back towards the surface.
