Woman whose 15 year old daughter and ex-husband were on the boat said that the captain or driver released the canopy which allowed people to swim back towards the surface.
If that's true and it releases fairly easily, than almost everyone should have survived IF they had on life jackets.

9 of 11 died holy frick
I don’t think I’d be able to live after that
Imagine being the poor rescuers and pulling a dead 1 year old out of the water

The "door" is located at the left rear of the boat.
You enter and exit the boat from the rear. Before moving they fold up the ladder blocking the exit.

That video is tough to pinpoint exactly what happened because the sunk boat seemed to be moving again after getting stuck treading water for a while. Did it just start getting water over the sides and couldn't move anymore?

I’d say death is prison enough

More than likely what happened. It was taking water on over the bow and I am sure the pumps could not keep up. As it speared waves, the hull gained weight, which was sloshing back and forth as the boat pitched which created momentum to push the bow down more. Its just a situation that was unavoidable once is started to get past the threshold.

I dont believe the captain died. Just the driver
Unless that changed

I have been that guy several times. It literally makes you sick for days. I am not saying that is the case here but in many cases it is the parents own stupidity or lack of common sense. I view everything in a worst case scenario now. There are many things I won't do with family because I know it would be difficult/impossible to help them if things went wrong. I never want to be the guy that survives something like this and loses everything.

The duck boat tour I went on in Chattanooga the driver was the captain.

I thought someone posted in the thread earlier that there was a captain and a driver on this boat. Not sure who it was..
Found it. No link though

The driver of the boat died but the captain survived. They found the boat in 80' of water, wow.

We went on a Duck tour in Boston back in 2008. It was fun, but I wouldn't want to ride one of those things on anything but calm water because they don't have a lot of freeboard and they definitely not particularly well suited for rough water.
Not all of the Ducks were WWII vintage, though, I remember our guide saying that some of them were new builds because they got worn out giving tours for so many years.
Not our Duck. I think this might've been one of the newer ones.
You can see the open windows here.
Overhead life vests.
On the water. I remember thinking that it wasn't very fast, although I'm sure it could've gone faster if necessary.

I can't imagine the boat having pumps to get rid of water like you're saying

I cant tell what type it is. Most larger boats like that have a open hull which means it usually has bilge pumps of some sort. They would never keep up if he was spearing waves as he did in the video but most boats that size have some sort of bilge pumps to take water out of the hull.
But like I said, I have never been on one of those boats so its hard to tell.

There's is a lot of stupid that led to this accident. Forget being out there in the first place is dumb enough, but a boat like that he should never drive into the waves. As someone who has driven boats recreationally since I was 8 years old, in rough water that's too much for your boat to handle (i.e. Waves crashing over the bow or big enough to capsize) you never drive into them. He should have turned around when it got that rough and drove with the waves at a slight angle toward the nearest shore and got out of the wind and waited.
Then when the boat began to sink, he should told everyone to jump overboard because if it goes under you'll get caught in the canopy

I were on that boat, I’m looking to bail out and float. I assume the PFDs were even worth a damn. Enclosed spaces on the water are death traps.
They weren't that far from the restaurant. Even without a pfd any halfway able bodied person could make that swim to shore if your life depended on it
