Alan Alda has Parkinson's
NEW YORK (AP) - Actor Alan Alda says he has Parkinson's disease.
Appearing Tuesday on "CBS This Morning," the former "M.A.S.H." star said he was diagnosed with the neurodegenerative disorder three and a half years ago. Alda says he expects a tabloid will soon publish a story about his diagnosis.
The 82-year-old says he's not angry and considers it a challenge. Alda says he has acted and given talks since then. He says he could see his thumb twitch in a recent podcast and thought someone would soon do a sad story.
Alda says revealing his diagnosis might be helpful to others with Parkinson's that there are things they can do.
Alda played a senator who ran for president on "The West Wing" and he also hosted "Scientific American Frontiers" on PBS.

I hate to hear that. He came and spoke at my workplace 2 years ago, and I got to meet him. He was talking about the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science. Really interesting stuff he has been doing in recent years.

Loved him in MASH. Main reason I watched it. Great chemistry on that set.

Hate to hear this , my family was all fans of MASH growing up. His character Hawkeye was great

That diagnosis is never a good thing, but at least he's done a lot in his life and left his mark and has reached an age many people don't achieve.
Look at Michael J. Fox, diagnosed with it as a young man and in the prime of his career as an actor. It pretty much ended his acting career.
Life can be a fickle thing.

Gary Burgoff, who played Radar, had some awesome tweets regarding Alda being a horse’s arse throughout the life of mash. He’s taken them down but you can google them.

Damn, that sucks. Hope he can keep a positive attitude.

I'm a big fan of M*A*S*H and still watch it even though I seen every episode umpteen times. Sorry to hear about Alan.

Burghoff has a reputation of being a prima Donna himself, so maybe take what he says with a grain of salt.
Everyone on the set loved Larry Linville (Frank Burns), BTW. IRL he was a 180 from his character.

And Robin Williams offed himself because of it.

Williams also had a dementia diagnosis

He was pretty shook up upon hearing the diagnosis.

Besides Alan being one of my favorites on the show, Col. Flagg is my second favorite even though he wasn't a regular.

Everybody else is ignoring this, but I acknowledge effort. Well done sir.

So in other words, some shitty arse tabloid was going to “out” his diagnosis and he decided to get out in front of it. How shitty.

Yeah, can you imagine the frustration level of a guy like Robin Williams trying to communicate with Parkinson's and dementia???
He'd shake himself into a seizure trying to vocalize his thoughts.

I heard just the opposite that Gary Burgof was very difficult to work with

Gary also has a crippled hand that he never allowed to be shown. Take a look at some episodes- he’s usually holding a clipboard, teddy bear or some other stuff in his bad hand.
