Besides Alan being one of my favorites on the show, Col. Flagg is my second favorite even though he wasn't a regular.

Agree here but close second was Dr. Sidney Freedman, the psychiatrist.

All my best to Alan Alda. MASH is my favorite TV show of all time.

Gary also has a crippled hand that he never allowed to be shown.

Sometimes you can catch a glimpse at his deformed hand, but he does hide it well. I once knew a girl who also had a deformed right hand and she hid well too.

Loved him in MASH. Main reason I watched it. Great chemistry on that set.

Me too, but it started sucking when all the original cast started leaving...

And the original writers left, and Alan Alda got creative control and the show got preachy.

I wish him well though.

Was doing the bone dance with a rando chick and flipped her over to get at her from behind and, lo & behold, there was a third nipple on her back. A small areola & nipple.

T’was weird. Not weird enough for me to have missed a stroke though.

I heard just the opposite that Gary Burgof was very difficult to work with

He was by far and away the worst Match Game panelist. He tried too hard to be funny and ended up not being funny at all.

Former child star Jackie Cooper directed some early MASHes. In his memoirs he wrote that Alda was extremely difficult and insisted on getting his way. He demanded the original ending for the classic episode "The Sniper" (in which the sniper is killed) be rewritten on the set so saintly Hawkeye could treat the wounded sniper and save his life.

But Cooper said Loretta Swit was even worse, and worst of all was Maclean Stevenson, whom he called the most difficult actor he'd ever worked with (quite an achievement, as Cooper's career went back to the '20s).

Cooper added that he never had any problems at all with Rogers or Linville.

I don't recall him saying anything about Burghoff.
