It was posed to married men because we are use to supporting more than just ourselves. If I were already single I would know the answer to the question as a fact.

Aslo, living in Louisiana I should add. I known some areas of the country have high cost of living.

$35K Net? Or $35K Gross?

Huge difference

$35K before tax?

That's $16.82/hr.

Many people make less than that and still get by fine. Just very little eating out, no vacations, and a cheap car.

I admit I couldn't. I spend that much in one night on hookers and blow.

Gas? Food? Home owners insurance? Car insurance? Saving only $200 a month, you are never going to retire.

Eta I see you touched on gas and food, but still.
Live? Yes

But why?

NO fricking way could I live on 35k a year. I would barely get by if I made that in a month.

How much gas and food do you need? Home owners insurance would be in the note. Have a paid off car so insurance for it would be cheap. I think I could swing it. Maybe would have to work till I died, but doable.

$750 for a house? Bitch, I would buy a nice RV, and have no house payment. Yes I could live off of 35k per year.

Posters on here have a distorted sense of expenses as they're 35+ and have kids, mortgage, private school, etc. If you're a single dude and can't live off a few grand a month you're probably bad with money. Live with a roommate, have a cheap car, shop smart at the grocery store, etc and it's easily doable.

Median per capita income is 24,800, that's twice the poverty rate.

At $750, you're going to need a roommate in BR or NO.

If your wife had any sort of wit, her response should have been, "I can make that happen for you."

I don't think I could do it starting now. If I never knew any different, I could if I had to.

I absolutely could. But, I would achieve OT Baller Status without the old ball and chain within 2 years, so it's irrelevant.

I do quite well, but with a wife, 4 kids, house, cars, college, and a couple dogs......there's not a whole lot of "fun" money anymore.

She is from LP and when we go visit her parents we see houses all the time for 125k. Two bedroom 1.5 bath 1200 square feet. That should equal around 750ish per month
