Cause Will Cover’s narrative was pretty accurate. Life takes over and it’s easy to grow apart without realizing it. “Date nights” etc. are critical.
Wife and I were discussing how we always thought “they stayed together til the kids left” but it’s more a case where, when the kids leave, there’s a void. The kids, etc. have become “the relationship” and there’s an emptiness, we believe, that our married friends experienced.

No, quite the opposite. When you put the thoughts, feelings and opinions of your significant other first before your own, it helps with the marriage.
Most people are selfish and make stupid / selfish decisions --- and that helps contribute to why communication in relationships break down.
Marriages end because one spouse usually doesn't feel liked, loved or respected.

Yep, that’s a slippery slope, got to give the kids a good upbringing but it can’t be all about them.

I completely agree with this but you have got to make your spouse a priority. I may have not been meeting his emotional needs at times but sexually things were good.

Eta: I also had one yesterday that was, "Don't eat so much, you're gonna make yourself sick". I ate too much, and had to leave Hogs earlier than I wanted to.
She can say stuff, but it's your choice whether to listen or not. I don't

Ah i misunderstood you. Well said
My wife and i have a unique dynamic of our own but we definitely put each other before all else. She's 20 yrs younger so theres a bit of a communication gap sometimes but its never more than a speed bump. We both grew up on farms so that helps alot
