You know what's worse for child development? 13 years of Orleans Parish Public schooling because you can't afford private school tuition.

Yep, I'm sure the kids at Lusher, Audubon and Ben Franklin (and baby Ben) are all frick ups with basically no education.

I forgot how much people here talk out of their assholes.

Depends on where you live. In the middle of nowhere then yes 300k is a millionaires life but in the city 500k is the min if you have kids.

That's a reality. 250k isn't nearly enough imho you should be aiming for no less than 500k a year

Honestly how old are you and how long have you been in a career type job?

This post screams that you're a college kid and just assume everyone graduates with a 200k/year job

That's the top 1% of income in the country. Lol.

How many different jobs/careers can pay this much?

None of those schools are Public Schools in the traditional and implied sense of the word.

I don't know what his 'aiming' might mean, but 500k is pretty much unattainable in a wide range of fields.

Academia-I would imagine the number is less than 0.01% of jobs

Public service-I'm guessing almost impossible

Oil and gas-only top guys, which is less than 1%

Finance/banking-top guys in big cities.

Unless you own your own business or have a very specific job with an unusually high income, 500k is a pipe dream for the majority of people

Wages have increased relative to the cost of living.

Today's average hourly wage has the same purchasing power as it did in the 70's. If your "wage to costs gap" has decreased it means you are a lower wage earner, which wouldn't surprise me if you lived in an area of the country such as the Great Lakes or rust belt. The gap has increased for higher wage earners over that same period of time.

With all this convo, what is making "good money" these days? Y'all making 200k sound like average for someone raising a family. FML

Type in your zip. Look at the median family income for the zip. If you can make 25% or more of that and are not looking for anything outside of there, you should be making a good living.

Because women are genetically inferior to men.

what is your issue with being comfortably wealthy?
It may be more than you need, but you could help others.
And when you are older, you will be shocked at the way inflation makes a retirement seem not quite as wonderful as it seemed when you were figuring it all out when you were 45.

I remember after Hurricane Rita, the parish sheriff of a parish southeast of L.C. told the media, I am saying its not smart yet to go back to this parish, but I can't stop them from going back. they didn't have anything before, and they don't have anything now.

I own my business after it was all said and done I took around 125k in salary and live extremely well. Some of you have some expensive taste if you can't live on 200k a year. My wife brings home about 60. Some of you are living a pipe dream thinking there are that many jobs out there that even pay over 100k a year.
