This just gets worse and worse, basically it looks like a ticket writing operation gone wrong, the lawsuit could cost taxpayers millions.

Yeah this is starting to look really bad. I am sure they will be creative and get their stories straight though. Anyone following this needs to read the new update on the previous page.

Apparently there is video of the incident too, if it hasn't been wiped yet.

Why allow them a day or 2 of rest before being interviewed? That is shady as hell

There's been numerous studies suggesting the positive effects of sleep on memory consolidation (converting short-term memories to long-term) as related to recounting events especially those high adrenaline, highly emotional events.

Many departments have instituted these 48 hour delays as a result. Some departments do the same with crime victims.

ETA: These delays are not without controversy.

It looks like like there may have been an ongoing feud with the Marshals office and the MPD involving them employing his officers and writing tickets. He didn't say much at the press conference but it was enough for the mayor to go to the AG office.

Lawsuits against political subdivisions of the State, like this, have damages capped at $500K, except for future meds and wages.

Tort reform.

Really shitty to think whoever represents the state here is going to use the fact he was autistic to diminish his future wages. You know it's going to happen.

no future wages for a deceased person with no wife or children to support. So zero for the child.

If the Dad survives, he could certainly have a claim for loss of earning capacity and future meds, greatly reduced by his comparative fault.

Col. Edmonson says there is also no evidence, at this time, that Few backed into the deputy's vehicle.

OP, you need to change the first post to include the new info.

Good Ol Boy network, all the players know each other. State Police will start interviews and have to charge someone based on the evidence.

So you've changed your stance on the issue?

You see why this is not always black and white now?

Yeah, I take back my comment saying I wanted to punch the father in the face.

At this point it's seems to be unclear whether the father did anything wrong at all.

I'm equally sure they just randomly decided to shoot at the vehicle.

You can sue for the future wages of your dead kid? How can you possibly put a legitimate number on that?

You still don't know it was random, and I never said they could do no wrong. This is the problem with people like you, OP, etc. You put words in my mouth when all I wanted to do was wait for facts to come out.

The question of whether or not they had jurisdiction alone could sink this whole boat. That's before the other issues of not having a warrant and no evidence the car backed up- and before any tape comes out showing what happened. I find it kind of entertaining someone thought that those explanations would work. This whole thing is starting to stink.

The victim is white?!?!

Non-story.

I was wondering why BLM didn't have boots on the ground yet.

You know they perked up when they saw a cop shooting in the south on MLK then were disappointed to see a white victim.

Lots of legal talent in Marksville. I could see the argument that the dad was a PoS, and would need the kid to support him in the future.

Damning new articles out by Gawker and the Guardian

quote:

Another revelation: the city’s marshal, Floyd Voinche, and his officers have been accused of routinely “overstepping their authority” by Marksville’s mayor, John Lemoine.

“I don’t know why he felt the need to start patrolling in city limits,” Lemoine said Thursday of Voinche. “It makes no sense to me.”

According to the report (you should read the whole thing), the investigation so far does not seem to support the story that Few was backing his vehicle towards or into officers. The positioning of the three police cruisers on the scene and the spray of glass from the passenger window indicate Few’s car was perpendicular to the officers, and their shots “hit the driver’s side broadside.”

quote:

Edmonson also said video footage of the incident does exist, but that investigators have not reviewed it. He added that the officers involved – there are four – had so far refused to speak with state police investigators. Police have not released the names of the involved officers.

Asked by the Guardian what reason they offered for their silence, Edmonson said: “You’d have to ask them. We are trying to talk with them.”

quote:

Few’s fiancee, Megan Dixon, said she and Few had bickered at a local pool hall. Sometime later, after Few had picked up his son, he pulled alongside Dixon at a stoplight and asked her to come with him.

“I wouldn’t do it,” she said. “I’m stubborn.”

Moments later, she said, as the cars pulled away from the light, she saw two marshals’ cars—marked in black and white—approaching from behind with their lights flashing. She looked into Few’s car as he pulled away, and he was pointing at his son’s head, indicating that he was in the car and he wasn’t sure what to do.

The reason for Few’s uncertainty? He was reportedly afraid of the marshals “because he and one of the marshals on the scene had a prior personal conflict.”
