Sales Tax? Yes. Income Tax? Yes. Estate Tax? Yes. Property Tax? LOL! He'd be run out of Baton Rouge on a rail.
State doesn't do property taxes. Property taxes are local, and EBR has recently voted in favor of multiple property tax increases.

The tax revenue from those two could fix the education system and the roads.
Ahh, I remember that's what the gambling legislation was for way back when.....

We don't have a funding issue in k-12 education. That's where the gambling money went. We're middle of the pack in k-12 funding. Our education problems in that arena have zero to do with not enough money. It's all about a lack of discipline, children and parents with an entitlement mindset (can't teach people who don't want to learn because it is of no value to them), too much administrative bloat, and a lack of focus on literacy in primary school.
Louisiana lags in spending per capita in higher education, though. With that said, I don't really believe Louisiana needs more tax dollars for it. I think we need consolidation, as we have entirely too many 4 year schools for a state our size.
Road funding is also very much so lagging due to the fact that we, for so many years, allowed our transportation fund to be raided by so many other things (municipal busses, sidewalks, state police, ports, airports, etc). We need to have our gas tax only go towards roads, and honestly, if we could actually trust them to put the money towards road projects we need (BR Loop, I-49 to New Orleans, Westbank Expressway, etc) then I'd be all for a gas tax increase. But we cannot trust them to not bait and switch us, so I won't.

A great bus system, the best Council On Aging in the state and a first class state of the art mental facility.

Marijuana and Sports Betting in Louisiana
If your stance is you'd like marijuana and sports betting legalized in Louisiana, that's fine. Just don't try to convince me that we should do it because of all the "tax dollars" it'll raise. Legalize it because you want it. You want to smoke a doobie and bet on the Tigahs. Nothing wrong with that. But to try and make this a tax issue is a farce.
The fact of the matter is that if Louisiana's politicians practiced more fiscal responsibility, we wouldn't need the tax dollars you speak of. Trim the fat, cut government spending and you'll find all the necessary tax dollars already in place.

I'm the opposite. I have a bookie. In fact, I wonder how it will affect things once we legalize sports gambling. I will probably just keep using my bookie.
Agree 100%, not to mention the states that have legalized outside of Nevada are colossal rip offs on the juice they charge and numbers they give. I only care if DFS is legalized.
Though I’m not sure why people are so confident John George’s will get his arse out of the way next go round.

Pot will be legal once Texas has legalized and its just pouring over the border. Florida will be the first southern state to legalize and by then, you'll be able to buy it from probably hundreds of low level dealers.

Why take money out of the people’s pockets and give it to government? You can get marijuana and you can bet on sports anytime you want in Louisiana. Why you love big government?

It won't change for degenerate gamblers, I included. I have a line of credit with my bookie, I pay him, or he pays me at a certain price. Betting games at the casino you have to pay the clerk at the window for each bet.
I'll stick with my bookie out of convenience of logging into a website and not leaving my house.

Meh I’m not going to get excited about more money for the government to piss down the drain
More money for Louisiana won’t do anything

We had bills for sports gambling, medical marijuana, decriminalization, and full legalization in committees during the last session and only like two made it to the floor in Kentucky. Both were easily defeated. We’ll absolutely be last despite having some the best environments for both.
The state legislature said they wouldn’t pass sports gambling because they didn’t like that the Governor promised to promote it in his campaign. And they all have pockets lined by the horse racing lobby who adamantly opposes it.
A bunch of bible beating Reps and Senators piled on the marijuana bills with ridiculous regulations as amendments and torpedoed them. Even after one of the fellow Congressmen came out and admitted he used it during chemo treatment and helped him beat cancer. And majority of Kentuckians support at least decriminalization and wanted it to come to a statewide vote.
Louisiana may be 49, but we’ll be 50.

Why would you want marijuana when you could buy OxyContin from the jbe family evidence locker?

Uhhh the northshore is definitely majority Catholic. Actually it’s very very Catholic. Tangi is pretty Baptist, but not St. Tammany.
