I think it is, on one of the green dots just north of Vegas. Area 51 is a lot closer to Las Vegas than people think.

A lot of Nevada is owned by the military but it's mostly a bombing range. It has no larger strategic value than that.

Elko, Nevada looks pretty safe. To Elko I go...

The clusters of black are where our warheads are. The best place to go due to resources, etc, is southcentral Utah. There is a natural buffer zone there. Nothing around for hundreds of miles in all directions.

So what you're saying is, the polygamists win.

The purple triangle is for a smaller countrywide nuclear attack. If I am not mistaken there is a purple one over Tuscaloosa...which really makes no sense.

I'm thinking you knock out all the bridges over the Mississippi. Can't move forces East-West.

When I hear that the nuclear strike is going to hit the D.C. area I am going to the top of the Washington Monument. That way, when we get to Heaven and ask people if they saw it, I'll be able to say that I did.

My best guess is that it's either a port or part of the electrical grid. The Corps of Engineers HQ is also nearby in Vicksburg* but I doubt that's it.

As far as the Mississippi Gulf Coast is concerned, that's either Keesler AFB or a port.

BTW NORAD is also in Colorado.

*Regional HQ, not national HQ.

Grand Gulf is right across the river but it looks like the dot is in tensas not port gibsone. Maybe putin just wants to kill a bigass whitetail.

How do the Commies know this?

They don't. That looks like the Pentagon came up with the target list, and I would assume they did it by asking "What would we hit if we were the other side?"

Lafayette on the 500 missile list?

I suppose this is really because of the old Henry Gas Plant was on the high priority target list because of all of the offshore pipelines that run through the plant

In nuclear strategy there is a concept of counter force vs counter value. Counter force is striking your opponents military targets, other nuclear forces, armies, air forces, fleets. In counter value you hit targets of political value, cities. The first supposes that nuclear weapons are like regular weapons and should be used to help win the war. The second strategy views that nuclear war is un-winable and therefore you need to coerce your enemy that you will hit his cities and deter war, but to do this the threat has to be credible. This is really an American concept of nuclear war and it remains to be seen if the Soviets/Russians really thought or think in those terms.

Not to be cynical but it looks like the map was produced by FEMA and from a budgetary perspective you assume that the scenario that is more useful for them is counter value.
