These are the people we trust with our lives.

I mean, let's just ignore the fact that they put AA batteries in a jet ski and the thing worked for two months.

I think you just go into it expecting that it won't buy you much and if it does bully. I'm in the lung transplant world and post transplant, assuming no complications, you are looking at anywhere from 2 - 3 weeks inpatient before discharge and then you are recovering for who knows how long after that as it is person dependent. I would almost think for all the costs and stress of the medical procedure that the six weeks may not have been worth it depending how post op life was.

Considering the amount of humans that die every day, it seems dumb that we have to resort to animal organs.

The Maryland team last year performed the world’s first transplant of a heart from a genetically altered pig into another dying man. David Bennett survived two months before that heart failed, for reasons that aren’t completely clear although signs of a pig virus later were found inside the organ. Lessons from that first experiment led to changes, including better virus testing, before the second attempt

The second person to receive a transplanted heart from a pig has died, nearly six weeks after the highly experimental surgery, his Maryland doctors announced Tuesday.

Roll it back, guys.

My understanding is he did this procedure eyes wide open that he was helping push science forward and his odds were low.

As someone that has survived accute heart failure and needing emergency surgery replace two valves in my heart, any time is worth it.
