This will be extremely unpopular, but I prefer Disturbed's cover to the original.

The hokiness of Simon and Garfunkel took away from the extremely powerful and beautiful lyrics of the song. This fit Draiman's vocal range and emotion better than S & G.

Take your own life.

It was a pretty good cover. It's probably not on the pre approved list of music you read to fit in, but it conveyed the emotion of the song perfectly.

If you can feel emotion.

Well....yes, but I concede that I'm a self-righteous a-hole .

But seriously, Simon and Garfunkel were the voices of a generation. They are on the level of Bob Dylan.

I realize not everyone is going to like everything I like, and I'm not going to like everything other people like. But there is a link between intelligence and taste in music. And I doubt someone claiming the Disturbed version is better than S&G's is getting an invite to Mensa.

Sound of Silence

My coworker listens to shite rock all day, and this song comes on at least twice a day. It is fricking garbage, and yet a lot of people seem to love it. Guess I'm the odd one, but I'd pay money to never hear it again.

That means nothing to me. Why can't music or art be taken on the level that it is, instead of putting a whole lot of historical irrelevancy upon it?

I finally got to see them in Atlanta in 2002. I left that concert and pretty much never listened again.

Yep. Used to think they were ok but I saw them when I went to see avenged sevenfold in 2010. Only concert I've ever left because it was so bad. The band members were assholes and they sounded HORRIBLE live. Disturbed sucks and so do you OP

When discussing the quality and "emotion" associated with it!!! These guys were story tellers that stood out at a time when the country was going through one of the biggest changes it was ever going to go through. When everyone and their brother was trying to cut it in the folk signing genre, these guys stood out. Not only could they play well, but they had something to say, and it made an entire generation listen. The whole point is that it isn't on the same level, so don't compare it.

But the lead singer of Disturbed sang a really slow song and didn't suck at it, so he covered the whole emotion thing pretty well.

This is where I just reply with a typical OT comment to go with your typical OT reply:

I am no doubt smarter than you and make more money than you.

Some people like to look for deeper meaning and cultural and historical significance in their music, like any other art form. Totally gay I know!

He actually changed it. It brings the song from a different perspective and frankly fits the lyrics better.
