I haven't read all the replies, but let me guess.....everyone thinks the song is a mass-marketed POS and Draiman/Disturbed sucks ala a metal version of Nickelback.

I fricking loath the "free-thinking" monkeydicks who shite on anything that flourishes outside of their agenda.

I saw the Conan version and it was a great piece.

Damn. If only I was more open-minded to such a terrible singing style. Shucks.

Not to say it's bad in any way, just don't get to ahead of yourselves here.

It's interesting the song really contained no social significance outside what the listener attributed to it. Simon wrote this in the bathroom where it was dark and silent.

In retrospect, it was given all kinds of social meaning which was never intended.

Draiman shared word of his interaction with Simon after the band delivered a performance of “The Sound of Silence” during its March 28 appearance on Conan. Simon saw the show and sent Draiman an email shortly after, saying, “Really powerful performance on Conan the other day. First time I’d seen you do it live. Nice. Thanks.”

Understandably enthused by Simon’s encouragement, Draiman posted a screenshot of the email on the band’s Facebook page, as well as his response. “Mr. Simon, I am honored beyond words,” wrote Draiman. “We only hoped to pay homage and honor to the brilliance of one of the greatest songwriters of all time. Your compliment means the world to me/ us and we are eternally grateful.”

So even Paul Simon endorsed the cover and Disturbed replied in the most classy way possible...and people still want to rip on the brilliance of this cover.

Well, I'm entitled to my opinion. Not going to just agree with Simon because it's his song. Not a fan of the cover. Just my two cents.

I'm not a big Disturbed fan, but that one moved me. I don't buy much new music, but that one's going on my phone.
