I don't need to do good works to be made right with God. I am already justified by what Christ has done.

I repent of my lack of graciousness and will attempt to not be that way going forward. That's enough. I don't need Catholic superstition.

This is true. Christ and Christ alone. Not Christ plus... anything.

i should not have laughed at you for this but I did lol

The thing I latch on to the most is your view of the gospel, which is that faith alone does not justify anyone, but good works are meritorious and add to justification.

I believe that is a false gospel. Do you think I don't understand that particular taeching?

Notice the King doesn't say "inherit the Kingdom because of your faith." He says, "inherit the kingdom because of your feeding the hungry et al."

Matthew 25, in the parable of the final judgment:

quote:

34 Then the king will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me,

I'm sure that the anti Catholic population will find a way to twist that into salvation by faith alone, but whatever.

Ok Foo I admit I’ve been enjoying yanking your chain.
I hold no ill will.

Listen closely to what I am about to say.

The schism between the CC and the E. Orthodox Church is mostly semantic and high church theology that means nothing compared to the Gospel Christ preached.

Likewise the difference between the Catholic and Protestant understanding of justification is so subtle that it make no practical difference in the way most people live their faith. IMO

IMO we both follow Christ and we should work together against the true enemy.
I am not your enemy and you are not mine.
In truth I wish that guy would have pissed on the pope instead of the altar.
God bless you for speaking up for Christ .

Idk what the issue is. I convince my sins to Christ in confession and the Eucharist is his flesh and blood.

ETA: shite man I keep on forgetting.

Do you not?

I know it's official teaching that it is good to call upon the saints for their intercession, and that prayer is the way to call upon them.

If you are encouraged to call out to the saints for help, and the way you do so is through prayer, how can you not be encouraged to "pray to the saints and Mary"?

What else would you say that it is?

Please don't misunderstand me. I'm not saying that I don't need to do good works at all. I'm just saying I don't need to do them to be made right with God.

My justification is by what Christ has done alone, not by what I do.

But with that said, I agree that we were created for good works, so I should do them out of thankfulness and obedience to my creator and savior. I'm just differentiating between works of merit vs. works of gratitude.

Maybe a cleric? Jordanian guards typically guard the site, not some dude wearing an Adidas shirt.

Why don't you address my comment about your logical fallacy? That is something that actually speaks to the truth.

What logical fallacy? That your Presbyterian off-shoot sect has only 10,000 members and NONE in the State of Louisiana? That's a fact. That's not fallacy.

What does that tell us? It tells us that you belong to a sect that is practically non-existent, which people should take into consideration when you preach here on Political Talk.

You belong to a tiny off-shoot of the Presbyterian Church, which itself is an off-shoot of the Church of England. Your tiny off-shoot believes in Double Predestination and that the Universe is only 6,000 years old. People should take that into consideration before they take your opinions seriously.

You would be simply ridiculous if you weren't such a bigot.

Here is the logical fallacy: you are saying that the number of members of my denomination is an indicator of whether or not we have right theology.

As stated previously, this is the argumentum ad populum fallacy. You are saying that truth is based on numbers.

I already addressed this multiple times. If this were true, Islam would be considered the right religion because there are more Muslims than Catholics.

It is clear that you don’t have a winning argument theologically, because when push comes to shove, instead of criticizing any of my particular beliefs, you criticize the number of members of the denomination. Thats absolutely weak and irrational, and I think you know that, which is why you refuse to acknowledge it.
