If I were European, I'd hate to have to fly an American airline.

I sat next to a big woman who had to hover over the seat and just drop down in between the arm rests of the middle seat. The rest squeezed out where it could. She got up to go to the bathroom, which required her to raise the arm rest, and I didn't think to put it back down while she was away. She came back, I got up to let her back in, and she left the thing up. It was only a short flight but I spent the rest of the flight with her leg 20% into my seat and sweating against mine.

The passenger is not likely an athlete and probably is fat. But, if he has a stocky frame, he isn’t the obese picture some may have in their mind.....picture John Goodman.

I have this same issue at sporting events. If you are too fat to fit within the confines of a single seat you should have to buy 2.

I had a seat in the back a few years ago...an aisle seat. A rather large gentleman of culcha walked back and pointed at the seat next to me. I just let him know that wasn’t going to work. He agreed and walked back to the front. I assume he found someone smaller than me to overflow onto.
You should absolutely. Have to fit between two poles at the gate just like the carry on baggage test. If you need two seats, buy two seats. I don’t even know how the logistics of that would work. Two tickets, same ID? Who knows.....this is why I have my own plane.
