re: Man charged with flinging stranger's 5 Y/O boy from third floor balcony at Mall of America

Just awful. I cannot imagine his mother's horror and shock. I hope the child recovers. The most recent update I can find said the boy had life-threatening injuries, and no further word on his condition.
One thing different about being a father: in the past I would have thought my first reaction would have been to chase and beat the man. Now that I'm a dad, I am pretty sure it would be to run after my child.

I think the suspect is mentally ill. He has a history of random violent outbursts especially at the mall and I have no idea why he was walking free instead of locked up in a nuthouse being pumped full of drugs and pills.

Court records show Aranda was arrested twice before at the Mall of America, the Associated Press reported. He was arrested on July 4, 2015, after police said he matched the description of a man throwing things off the upper level of the mall, and police said he refused to give his name and resisted arrest.
He also was accused of walking into a mall store and sweeping his hand across a display table, breaking glasses.
In October 2015, Aranda was accused of throwing glasses in Twin Cities Grill in the mall, and the complaint says that he approached a woman who was waiting for the restaurant to open and asked her to buy him something, and that when she refused Aranda allegedly threw a glass of water in her face and a glass of tea that struck her leg. Aranda was under a trespass notice at the time banning him from the mall until July 4, 2016, the AP reported.
Messages left by NBC News with two public defenders that court records show represented Aranda in past cases were not immediately returned late Friday afternoon after business hours.

Maybe so, but I’m getting tired of the mental illness excuse every time some a-hole does something assholish.

guarantee you, if a white man threw some random black kid out of a window, the blacks would burn the city down. I’m more civilized than that. I say we just burn the suspect till he’s dead
I bet you’re one of the people who gets outraged when race gets inserted into a situation for no reason

Shows a pattern and his behavior is escalating. This needs to be the straw that puts him away for significant time. What else does he have to do to show he’s a danger to the public?

I wonder what the court would say if the parent of that kid would have beaten this guy to death after doing this?
I would have
Would you really? Or would you be more concerned about getting down 3 stories to your child?
Everybody keeps saying they would have curb stomped the guy, but in all honesty probably 80% of the people walking around the mall right next to them didn't even notice what had happened until after people started screaming and the rest would probably be in shock wondering to themselves "did that really just happen?" I'm sure that by the time everyone was thoroughly convinced he really did throw a child off the balcony and it wasn't a doll or some kind of prank the fricker had already ran away.

Do you understand how blind rage works? People often dont respond logically when they see a loved one attacked
If someone randomly walks up and punches my wife in the face of course im going to be concerned about her broken nose. Immediately after i crush someone's windpipe

I agree with the sentiments of this but mental illness and insanity defense is there for a reason and can be considered a mitigating factor against a more harsher sentence and it will absolutely be considered in court.
With that said, regardless of where he goes whether it's prison or the nuthouse, this guy should never walk another step in free and civilized society ever again, at least for several decades as violence against a child is worse than violence against an adult. It shocks our conscience.

I agree. The problem is where? Thss government closed most of the mental institutions. There's nowhere for them to be sent, so those with mental illness are either cared for by family of they live homeless. That leaves them and us open to danger.

Soak this mother fricker in diesel fuel and light him on fire.

It breaks my heart that our most innocent can be so quickly and randomly introduced to pure evil and depravity. Imagine the wonder and imagination of innocence being completely destroyed by something this statistically improbable and random. It’s just horrible beyond comprehension.
As for punishment, my guess is this guy is a delusional schizophrenic or something. It’s probably not really a criminal matter, more of a lock this guy away forever in a straight jacket kind of thing. If he is mentally competent, he should be released into the general prison population and whatever happens...happens.

This story is not on National news. Is it obvious why?

99% of parents are going to run directly to their child who just got throw ~50ft to his possible death. It is quite a bit different from your wife getting punched.

Do you mean TV? If not it is on all the major websites.

USAtoday has nothing in the top stories on their app.

It’s the assholes that cry mental illness for everything that dilutes a crime with true mental illness.
