I know there was a thread from a few days ago about this, but at least now we know the guy they were chasing has been caught and charged. Hopefully, he'll be given maximum sentences.

A Chicago man has been charged with weapons offenses in connection with the deaths of two Chicago police officers who were struck by a train as they chased him. Edward Brown, a 24-year-old South Side resident, faces a charge of reckless discharge of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, both felonies, Chicago police said in a news release on Wednesday. The two officers responded Monday to a shots-fired call -- issued after a ShotSpotter sensor detected gunfire on the city's South Side -- and followed Brown, who ran onto the train tracks, Chicago police said. A passing metro train struck and killed the officers, authorities said. Brown was taken into custody that day after he was seen firing a gun in the area, Chicago police said.

Body camera audio indicates that officers Conrad Gary and Eduardo Marmolejo were aware of a northbound train in the area during the chase, but they did not realize a southbound train was approaching, according to Chicago Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson. The noise from the northbound train apparently masked the sound coming from the other train, said police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi. There's no indication the officers saw the southbound train before it struck them, he said. It was traveling at 60 to 70 mph. The two died instantly, police said.

For running from the cops?

As the story evolved, it became even sadder.
They were hit by a train they didn't see or hear. Possible extenuating circumstance: trains dim their lights as they approach other trains. But the sound....one photo of the area shows a large soil berm that might have lead to a confusing echo.
And having walked along train tracks doing geology, I can feel for them because the easiest place to walk is the center of the two tracks...would be the same for running.
A 65 mph train doesn't give much time for avoidance. It's why we don't walk slowly across highways.

I'm sure it'll be an unpopular opinion, but if you're running from the police and the police are killed because of something THEY themselves did, how do you figure he should be charged with their deaths?

Because it was during the commission of a crime. If the guy hadn’t broke the law, the two cops would have never been there.

So, a guy is holding some hostages. And there is an attempt to rescue the hostages, but one of the SWAT team dies in the process of trying to rescue, I surely do hold the hostage taker ultimately responsible.

If a cop gets hit by traffic because he pulled me over for speeding, do I go to jail ?
Posted on 12/19/18 at 11:55 pm to dcrews
Needs to be a during the commission of a felony in a lot of states to get charged with felony murder

Weapons - check
drugs - check
elusive speed - check
Saban just offered the guy a scholarship.

NOT the best analogy.
Try if you got pulled over, fired some shots and then darted across the highway and the cop was struck by a car while in pursuit.

A few years ago a guy in MS was driving a hopped up Trans Am and was speeding. (Supposedly about 140 mph) Highway Patrol officer pursued the guy and died when he lost control of his cop car and crashed. Trans Am guy went to prison.

There better be a lot more to this story or those charges are going to get laughed out of court.

They'll find enough to sentence him as if it were for murder.
Just ask OJ.
While OJ got off in LA, he was nailed in Nevada. That judge put it to him with maximum sentences for his "kidnapping". Everyone damn well knew what she was doing, but it was within the laws and no one really cared because OJ is a piece of shite murderer.

I see Brown plays Red Dead Redemption 2

I agree. This is as dumb as those laws that would charge a getaway driver with murder when his accomplices killed a bank teller.

I’d have to check, but fleeing from the police and getting into a chase is probably a felony.

I understand that is a law on the books, but I still don't understand why a cop's negligence in doing his job warrants a murder charge for another individual.

Does it make any difference that no human beings were endangered by the shots fired? If they had been, they would have called the police....right?
A machine called in the report of shots fired, to be specific
Who is left to testify against the alleged shooter? A machine.
Dude shouldn't have been shooting. But were the casings found the ones that the machine heard being fired? Dude had a gun. In some Chicago 'hoods, most dudes and dudettes have a gun, or even more than one.
I just can't puzzle through all the possible twists of this starting with a machine reporting shots fired.

Not possible. He would've been driving a charger if he'd been on scholly at Bama.
